I'm third gen, I've been working since I was 15, never had a hand out and took care my family before and after my mother passed away. I agree alot of the people my age and younger come off as soft, sensitive, and self entitled. What does the future hold in store for us?

It'll be fine, time will pass, you got another 30 years before millennials get into power anyways. Changes to society happened during the baby boom. I'd say now though ambition isn't bad. Get into rural places, people where I'm from would rather fight than cry. Everywhere in the country is different. I blame the education system though. The quality of public schooling is a joke. If you cause enough trouble, you get passed because the teacher doesn't want to see your face again. That I where the entitlement comes from. Inb4 millennial out cry.

Now that I've had some sleep I'll go more into detail. In my opinion most of the problems of this country is that we are becoming afraid of confrontation. Nobody wants to get their feelings hurt, but it's needed to become stronger. We need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. Now there's threats of terrorism and it's making us uncomfortable, so we tend to shut it out. I'll save the politics for a different discussion, but its kind of relevant. The older generations are concerned about "Extended Adolescence", but I personally don't see much of a problem with it. What would the problem be that we want to enjoy life more than other generations. I'm about to turn 21, but I still feel like I'm a school-kid compared to the thought of the rest of my life. I can't promise I'm going to live a long time, however I'll go with my plans until then. As a country though we are becoming more tolerant each day that passes. In some aspects we are becoming stronger in some fields while weaker in the others. The entitlement though is again related to the lack of conflict. No body wants to say no, so a whole generation is used to taking without repercussions.

I think that is just something you typically see with age gaps. My situation is very similar to your own. I have worked since I was 14, worked 2-3 part time jobs while going to college full time, after graduating with a bachelor's continue to have a full time and part time job. While where I work it is easy to see the problems with society, the economy does play a huge factor. I'm not saying there isn't lazy people in the world that just want to suck the system dry, there is in fact a lot of abuse in social programs. But there are many people that those benefits help. Now when abuse is present, you see 18 year olds applying for assistance because they have no job, no income of their own. Half the time the thought doesn't occur to them to even request help, but because that's how their family made it while they were growing up, their parents expect them to do the same now that they are adult. That mindset is the problem. Statistics say it takes 3 generations for a family to cure poverty. Where I live, it goes on and on and on. Education does in fact play into this. Ignorance as well. I was the product of teenage pregnancy. I learned by watching how hard it was for my parents to make it growing up. I decided I didn't want to make those mistakes. 95% of the people in this area have a devil may care attitude regarding it and just don't consider what the future holds. Everyone lives for today and the immediate tomorrow, not 5 years away, or even 1-2 years away.
Too much info^^^ Basically, it isn't a generational thing as a whole. There are many other factors at work, such as location, the economy and employment rate, and the ignorant human element.
