Better for a smaller group of friends that know each other like one of the Skype groups or the tinychat group which has been done before. As for the entire site not likely to workout as mentioned.

Online communities do secret santa all the time. There are sites out there that streamline the process and let you share as much or as little info as you want. It's far from impossible to set up.

That sounds fun. I'd be willing to participate. If physical presents turn out to be a no-go, then I think sending a picture (screenshot compilation/ artwork) or an e-mail (special coupon/ website membership invitation/ e-card) would be nice.
