Why do people want to be my friend?

Seriously, why? I'm like never on the forums or sending people messages that often. but when I come back to check in, I have a bunch of friend requests from people I have never spoken to, or will ever speak to? Why do people add people when I have no intention of talking to you?

Probably because they wanted to be friends with every one on the site maybe, since this is a social and dating site but most of them come here to make some new friends.

They could be friend collectors. Or maybe they want to send a private message and not something on your wall for everyone to see. Usually that's the way I like it. Just cause you have no intention of talking to people doesn't mean others won't want to talk to you. Or maybe they want to harass you. idk. this site is crazy.

Lot of people treat friends on various websites like pokemon. Like they're something to collect and keep in storage. Then they never interact with the majority of them and just keep to a small group. On most sites I'll only add/accept people that I actually know or talk to. Here I don't care so much and accept them from whoever. I get them all the time and most never talk to me after sending them but whatever.

While it's not often I do it, sometimes I'll send friend requests to people who seem interesting that I might wanna talk to and get to know. but man the last time I did they kept giving me the third degree about why I'd even want to add them/talk to them. Seemed like a self esteem thing at first since they mentioned not having anything interesting to talk about, but they just kept dishing out the third degree till eventually deciding to ignore me. I'm no stranger to people loosing interest in talking to me but that's gotta be the first time I met someone who almost seemed offended by me adding them and saying hi. Guess it takes all types. I've had some real weirdos add me and message me in broken English, only talk about perverted things, or in one case only ask me questions about some girl they were stalking. still, I try to give them honest replies in a timely manner all the same. After all some people are shy or awkward and have difficulty communicating. That said now it kinda makes me wonder if some of the people who send those friend requests aren't hoping that we'll message them and start the conversation.
