Dating in the Anime Community: Pros and Cons

devy_12
What are your opinions on the subject?
desu
I suppose it's much harder to find people near you if you don't live in a necessarily common area, so you may have to deal with a long distance relationship which not all people can do. Also, can you honestly get a real idea of what someone is like just from text on a screen?

You got a good point dude that's definitely a con for people who date long distance
devy_12
That's cool but that also can be a con they're people who are overly obsessive with anime and totally ignore there gf/bf

If it's your thing, common interests are always good and why a lot of otaku males want a gf who also is one or at least has comparable nerdy interests.

pros: common interests with a high likelihood for similar mindsets. cons: People will often have high or unrealistic standards brought about from near perfect characters in the medium. As mentioned distance is usually an issue as you have a niche interest spread out across large areas. You have higher chances of finding people with the same interests in more populated areas, but it's still an issue of limited selection. People also have a high tenancy to be into really weird and kinky stuff. Some say it's because people are more open minded in the anime community, or could also be because they have more exposure to the bizarre and become more accustom to it. who's to say really. The anime Community is full of people who are very often very mentally disturbed and can be down right nutty. Stalking is not uncommon, and I've known people first hand who have been assaulted at conventions, who have been harassed, and toyed with. One guy I know traveled cross country to meet a person for a date who stood him up thinking it was funny for one example. These communities also tend to draw in tons of social rejects(usually for good reason) so you should really have low expectations and not be surprised if most of the people you come across have a fair bit of baggage and/or problems. Biggest issue might be that the whole thing is mostly a sausage fest which warps the minds of the women in it giving them entitlement complex while making the men only get more desperate and pathetic in the processes. There's also a time limit on top of it all. As the average age for people in these communities is around 16-23. if you're around 30+ it starts to become a real uphill battle.
