But guns aren't to blame. Certain ones may make it easier to kill a lot of people quickly, but the intent is the issue. The fact that our culture seems adept at producing individuals who feel as though killing others is the best way to express how they feel. Remember that these people aren't born like this in the vast majority of cases. Things happen to them in their lives that twist them to this point.

No point blaming guns, when someone is at that state of mind they would probably use whatever weapons they could find. For example if you look at countries around the world with strict gun control you can find mass killings with knives, bombs etc. As a side effect of legal guns in America the people have to accept that guns will be used for other than protection / sport.

I agree that people will murder one way or the other, does anyone feel that making it harder to murder multiple people is worth taking action? I didn't do an exhaustive search but my cursory scan seems to suggest while mass stabbings do take place, the death toll and total number of victims trends lower than gun violence. There are spikes and outliers mind you, but the trend suggests places with stricter gun control have fewer deaths per incident. In a world where you can't stop mass murderers, is fewer deaths per incident a worthy short term goal? More importantly can it be achieved?

From what I understand bearing in mind I am not American: Guns are part of the culture and will never be restricted / controlled, as a side effect of this there will be accidental deaths / murders which involve them. That is the price that the society will pay. Only thing America can really do is: target gun crime, encourage training to prevent accidents, invest in mental health as the people who carry out these shootings usually have some issues.

Killings will not stop. There are too many variables however when motive, opportunity, and capability collide, the realm of possibility becomes the realm of probability. Can we narrow down that which gives people the potential to kill or would it too much invade our privacy or wrongly lable a person as a criminal who has not committed a crime? A person is responsible for their own choices and actions but by involving oneself in society, one will always be at risk of someone else's actions. It's a matter of chance in chaos.

@Xypho First off let me just point out that you 'Cannot' Buy a Firearm of any kind if you have a Mental disorder or a Criminal Record; Guns are not easy to obtain legally, Most gun merchants will ask for your permission to do a Criminal back-round check and ask you for any licenses to carry a firearm or purchase certain firearms, except for some northern states. But there is alot of stuff in place to keep certain types of people from obtaining a firearm, It's not like you can go into a store and buy an AR-15 or a Combat Shotgun, You need licenses for that. Also i know you didn't say this but; "There is no such thing as a Dangerous Weapon, Only Dangerous individuals:, the reason i say that is because any person is capable of killing; it isn't what he used, it's how he'll do it, i mean... He could've just walked in there with a Kitchen knife and did the same amount of damage, but we aren't going to put laws in place to restrict the purchase of kitchen utensils right? The point being is that anything can be a weapon, from a gun, to a knife and even a Rock you stepped on the other-day while walking. "No such thing as Dangerous Weapon, Only Dangerous individuals" the question is what are you going to do to prevent that individual from shooting or bashing your skull in, Honestly Guns are the reason any of us are safe. Why? Because people fear what can kill them, Why do you think you fear soldiers, Policemen and other individuals, because they all have guns, Those individuals are the reason why People aren't rushing your house with a knife and gutting you, They are the reason why we aren't being invaded by some other country or some crap, Humans will always take what's not there's if they are presented with an easy opportunity with no repercussions attached. Fear is what keeps the wolf out of the hen house and also why the Hen's fear the Dog also, In order to protect; You need fear.

Fear can also breed respect and discipline, it also can help a person grow if you show them how to overcome certain fears.
