How welcome are Americans seeking to move to Japan?

jm89
Title explains it all. This is more of a question to educate everyone moreso than just myself.

I heard that there is a great community for people who are foreign living in Japan, I think there were like bars or something? Anyway as in most foreign countries, the people will be super interested in your ability to speak English. There's this one guy on YouTube that makes videos about it but I got bored and stopped watching them tbh

its not a priority but i would like to visit japan and maybe stay a bit to go around and see the area

Lets put it this way; 'America' used weapons of mass destruction on civilian cities in japan killing more than one hundred thousand innocent people in retaliation to an attack on a military base. How do you think some of them might feel about Americans moving there?

What guy on YouTube? That sounds interesting. @Dom kun Same here, @Panda. I couldn't imagine myself permanently moving but visiting there for a few months is definitely an experience I'd like sometime in the future. That's history, although I imagine the older generation would have more of a disdain for it than the youth. @Neet, well said - I like the depth of your exclamation.

You're right jm89, it's mostly just the older generation that don't like foreigners very much. Younger crowd can go either way.

Do they make the differences between caucasians from other countries, like Canadians?
jm89
Thanks for the resource @Cory. @Neet, Are they openly resentful about it or do they discuss it behind closed doors? Great question @Rinar. There's many other countries who represent Caucasian races so I'm sure they recognize a difference and probably don't hate on everyone based solely on the color of their skin. Also America is a highly diverse nation with a mixture of people from every country representing it. I haven't been there before so I'm just speculating about them noting a difference.

some can be openly resentful sure. While japan is very xenophobic and doesn't like foreigners, it's Americans they hate the most. I've known caucasian people who went and got lots of shit from people but those people would mellow out once they point out they're not American. I should also point out that it's not just the WWII thing. Americans are known for being loud obnoxious disrespectful douchbags, and doesn't help much when American soldiers head over there to randomly beat people up and rape women.
