Smoking or non-smoking

I grew up some in tobacco country, one could hardly avoid it back then. Now I gotta do a bunch of BS to quit but a good thing ultimately. Back in the 1990s apparently it was leaked the tobacco companies were using a preservative that was known to become addictive on its own. That is when the govt busted down on them here in the states hard in advertising and made them change chemicals. Avoid it if you can I say. I have not smoked inside for years because it's harder to keep the house clean for one.

I don't care if you smoke so long if it's not around me, or in my house. You can go outside. =x

I'm may be a smoker, but i fully respect the wishes of those who don't smoke. What i hate is when someone is an ass about smokers, like fake coughing as loud as they can because they happened to walk where you're smoking or those who want to judge smokers, to quote a certain someone "smokers are nasty". Smokers aren't the problem, smoking is. Is there a difference? Yup, my cigarettes do not define me so much as i use them. I more than realize how awful smoking is and i do not need others to tell me as if im new to breathing. I obviously don't mind dating smokers, but even i don't want to be with someone who smells like an ash tray. If any of you ever met me, you wouldn't be able to tell that i smoke unless i just did. I do not smell of smoke, my car smells surprisingly fresh, my breath does not stink, my apartment doesn't stink because i never smoke in it, i have no cough and can run like a champ as long as my foot isn't killing me, but that's another story with a medical past. I'm not nor will i ever defend smoking, it is a horrible habit, but that doesn't make the person any less or weaker than you. We all have vices and most here eat crap that put cigarettes to shame, i just hate shame tactics.

@Bryan @Yaasshat @PsychoticZiq @animewolf20 People dislike smoking for a good reason. Is it fair to say "smokers are disgusting?" No, it isn't. But no one here has said "oh I hate all smokers." We don't want a relationship with someone that smokes, and that is fair. I can understand how it feels bad to be called things like disgusting or even worse, especially in your case Bryan where you didn't smoke. I admit that I do overreact to smoking sometimes, particularly because it killed my grandfather. Smoking isn't simply a habit. It is more important of a characteristic than you are giving it credit for. No, it doesn't define who you are - we are all many things at once. But that doesn't mean that it isn't worth our attention. Personally, as a future doctor I can't tell a patient "you should stop smoking" and be involved romantically with someone who does smoke. I think the fault in that is apparent. I'm sorry that people can treat smokers in a rude manner, but that's a fault of humanity. It's the very same fault of humanity that causes some people to start smoking - so that they aren't condemned by their peers. And right now, I certainly do see how you all feel like smokers are being condemned in this case. As a society we've only just started turning our backs on smoking. The backlash is inevitable. I'm never going to sit on here and say it is okay to smoke. So how am I going to have a relationship with someone who smokes? I don't expect perfection, but I have very strong reasons to dislike smoking and so do many other people here. It will evoke strong emotions. People now are taught that smoking is unhealthy, disgusting, etc. and emotions will reflect that. Many people also have more personal reasons such as the death of a loved one, bad allergies, already poor health, and so on. That's the reality we live in. I'm sorry if you feel like there's a lot of hate for smokers, but I won't apologize for being against smoking.
