Jumpscares and Horror?

Do you prefer to be shocked or just down right creeped out when you play horror games? What are you favorite scary games? I handle the creepiness pretty well, surprises on the other hand make me throw things. http://blackgirlgamer.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/foxy-nope-nope-nope.gif

I couldn't play one of those, but I'd watch so long as I could bury my face in someone's shoulder lol I did hear good things about Silent Hill and the new Alien game.

Yeeesss I love horror and jump scare games! Especially if it's a fun and challenging one ! There are some that try to hard and it just gets silly -u-

I like the ones that actually try to instil horror. Not just show a 3d model for 3 seconds and then remove it for shock value. Sure it gets a jump but it doesn't get under the skin like real horror should do in my opinion. The best kind of horror is the one where you are immersed in it so much that when you leave the game you just have this weird funk. Due to a really well done atmosphere and story, the kinda thing where just sitting in the game world can be unnerving *cough* Silent hill 2 *cough* *cough*.

I don't like jumpscares. I think they are kind of stupid actually. Jumpscares are like candy. You eat them to get a quick jolt of energy and feel crappy later. With Jumpscares you get a quick burst of 'AHH!' then you feel like it's really stupid later. They are like dry horror and they only work once. I'd rather play a game that messes with me on a physiological level. Games with the fear of the unknown or just downright freaky elements that make me think are my big fav. When a game can make me fall in love with it's characters then turn and force me to watch them go though pain, that hurts me and scars me. A lot.
