Can it be a live action anime? If so Space Battleship Yamato was cool.

I remember watching one movie based on a true story(but not 100%), about a single mother and her 3 or 4 kids. How she would gradually neglect and abandon them, and it was really sad. I do think sad movies like that are still good to watch, and good for raising awareness of these problems.

I've not seen many, but Paradise Kiss was very good ^ ^ I enjoyed the Rurouni Kenshin film, but they did try to squash a lot in, so it didn't really work so well ¬ ¬ Battle Royale was also good.

I guess Battle Royale and The original The Ring and The Grudge films are the only ones I think I have seen, I hope those two horrors aren't related to animes in any way.
