If you are open about it, and you don't try to hide it, I think its acceptable. But I don't really know, it depends how you and your partner defines that relationship

No! A good relationship values trust, respect, and honesty. I don't understand people who cheat. If you feel the need to cheat then the relationship isn't working out.

That doesn't make it ok, I'm just saying.

I don't think it is ever acceptable. Heck if you don't want to be with someone tell them upfront and break up don't cheat. Sadly I think that vampire_neko is right about why cheating happens. I just know that personally I would never cheat.
