Is self talking bad?

I often hear people complaining about the habit I have of talking to myself, regardless of if alone or in company. I don't do it loudly or anything. It's just something I do unconsciously... For example, I'd be playing a game, and I'd start giving my self instructions in the 3rd person, as if i was teaching someone else. I'm told it's a sign of mental illness, but I don't know...

*shrugs* It's your personality. I have a habit of verbalizing my immediate emotional state. I'll be excited to start the day and thinking about a current project and find myself saying "YEAH!" like Randy Macho Man Savage.

If its a sign of mental Illness then I'm screwed. When I start idea bouncing or going into strategics with myself, I enter a "collective" mode, I was informed about it multiple times by my room mates, but never really believed them until I kinda came to my senses or snapped out of it(?) you could say during such a time. For definition, The "collective" mode is almost a round table discussion with myself, using various idea sets and personality traits I possess to bounce and flesh out ideas with myself. Aside from that one time, I haven't caught myself doing it, but I'm sure I've had. And the only time it seems to happen is when I get real excited writing a scenario for a tabletop game, rpg maker stories, or short stories/novels and stuff. And now I've revealed the strangest aspex of myself and will scare everyone off lol.

I don't think anything's wrong with it as long as you're aware of your surroundings. I used to do it when people where around but I noticed that was kind of a bad habit, so I do it when I'm alone and bored. >-< the third person playing video games thing I do all the time.

I talk alone, sometimes voluntarily, sometimes unconciously. The point is, talking to myself makes me choose better decisions... I don`t know how to put it... ^^"
