Religious beliefs and you.

jikokun
So for a while now, I been noticing a large trend on facebook and its starting to really piss me off. "Praise Jesus!" Posts all over the place, even in non-religious topics. For an example, there was this FB post of a speaker talking about a 20$ bill. He asked who wanted it. Everyone obviously. So he crumple it, threw it on the ground and stomped on it and asked again who wanted it. Still everyone. he then says we are like the 20$, that no matter what we do to it, its still worth its 20$, it never depreciates, and neither should we. Some motivational crap. Irrespective of this, I read over 200 posts and roughly 130~ were SOMETHING to do with god, jesus, or christianity. Now me, im all one for equality for religious beliefs but for fucks sake why do people feel the need to go uber Christian and disregard another's religious beliefs to disrespectfully show their praise Jesus crap down the rest of our throats? So what are your thoughts on religious "freedom", and what appears to be a social intolerance for many to anything other than christianity? I'm personally somewhere between a Wiccan and a Pagan. I have strong beliefs for both, but I dont fully agree whith either or to be like "yep, thats I believe." Let's keep this drama free and respectful. I'd like to believe we can be adults about it. :)

I was born a christian, raised a christian for almost 10 years, went atheist, then converted to zen buddhism, realized that was more of a lifestyle than a religion... so I made my own. Now, I do get a lot of crap from not only christians but almost any religion for that matter...but I think it's more or so just that type of person not their religion. Intolerant people will be intolerant no matter what religion they belong to... Anyways...I believe that we should all be able to have our own religious freedom and have the freedom to be able to express it without fear of backlash from the community for our beliefs. At the same time though, I believe we shouldn't be plastering our belief all over the place like a mexican whore. I respect their beliefs, I understand why they believe what they do, but I don't want to hear it or see it all over the place...because most of the time the people saying the stuff are either ignorant or intolerant; the worst being a mix of both. Though I will say this: I've met people from a lot of different religions and there are a lot of people who actually live by their religion instead of preach it. Most of the time these people are respectful, and don't go around praising their creator or savior...

I hate when people do that with religion. Bringing it up on every unrelated topic. I don't care about their religious beliefs, and body else should either. Yet, these people do it anyway, obviously trying to seek attention. It plagues our society just as much as gay pride, racial pride, and that....pot smoking pride... You don't see straight people having parades, talking about being straight 24/7 all over their Facebook walls, etc. Why do gays do it? I'll tell you. Attention seeking. All they're doing is giving themselves a bad name. As for all the pot smoking pride, and ranting about it 24/7? I don't even need to get into this, now do I? That whole "culture" is pathetic. Nobody cares if you do drugs, stop bragging and looking for ATTENTION. The racial aspect I won't get into either, it's just ignorant unintelligent. That being said, I hate it when people do such things, the religious aspect. And everything else, stop bragging about it, and ranting about it where it DOESN'T belong. Nobody cares, stop shoving it down our throats.

Hallelujah! Preach it brother! ;P Any one with a strong conviction usually has a desire to share it and hope that another will feel the same. There's nothing wrong with stating a belief, it's when it becomes a point that all must believe as you do , then it becomes a problem. Religion is not the issue so much as people with their sense of duty and priority. Just as guns don't kill people, religion doesn't cause conflict on its own.

From what I've noticed also, its the people who shove it down others throats are the ones who never go to church, only practice on holidays, etc.

I always hated that "guns don't Kill people" ...#*%$...if you want to use that logic Heroin don't inject people and coke doesn't jump up people's nose so they should be legal too. And people have been slaughtering each other for thousands of years over religious beliefs. Even today, in Africa, you have Muslim extremists killing Christians etc. Tell all the women that were tortured and burned as witches that religion isn't a problem and doesn't Kill people!

Hey man...witches are dangerous...they can turn people into newts...

So....Is this a religious bashing thread or just against Christianity? I mean, ignore Facebook, no one (at least in the US) can force any belief on you. Be glad we can choose and we can oppose differing opinions. Guess what I do if I don't want to listen? I walk away and don't interact. Stand up when needed. Just because you see or hear a few words you don't like doesn't mean it's being shoved down your throat.

@vamp I respect your opinion and point of view. But if it wasn't guns, it'd be knives, if not knives, the nearest rock, fist, and so on. Don't hate guns, hate those who wrongly use them.

*double post.... So I'm to believe now that all gun owners are basically druggies and all religious people are violent ego maniacs by default? A drugs only purpose is to be used and a gun can be used for a variety of things, not just to kill a person.
