Agreed, miya. There is no true ideal person. I was gonna do a post like this but didnt want to post my ideal person, and didn't know how to word it, so i'll postpone it

I guess if i had to do one, it'd basically be "someone who'll accept me for me, has similar interests, and would like to try new things together. Or someone to just watch anime with and cuddle"

I agree with Miya. I go on this site and people give this list of wants and dislikes and I go down their list and think, "Well, so much for this guy..." It's really hard to feel like we can make someone happy when they have set expectations... We all want to make our partners happy, I'd hope.

@Yudodat: Are you insinuating that you'd start a relationship with someone without even knowing anything about them? Just about silly things like someone's favorite things and dislikes? That's very high school of you. The entire point of dating before a relationship is to befriend the person if you weren't already friends and to see if you are a match. And if you weren't aware, dating is the period where you aren't fully in a committed relationship, and you talk about everything: life goals, expectations, likes/dislikes, etc. And IF you find that you are a match, then you can start a closed relationship. If NOT then you find someone else and move on. Also, how in the hell do you fall in love with someone you are so obviously against? It doesn't happen at the drop of a hat like it does in animes. If you're able to throw it around so easily with someone that would obviously bother you, then maybe you haven't felt true love. @missallyesterday: Exactly! And when they have set expectations, it's not like they are open to find anyone, but instead this very specific person who most likely doesn't exist.

Context? All I see is someone shaming another for a forum thread they posted for not "caring" about the aspects they personally care about. If you noticed, he mentioned video games. Unpopular to common belief, not every "Otaku" is into video games. I know four of six girls who define themselves as anime otakus who hate gaming or are only fond of one game (which he mentioned made them a "noob".)... And if we're being incredibly accurate, otaku means: 1. (in Japan) a young person who is obsessed with computers or particular aspects of popular culture to the detriment of their social skills. But nowadays, they use the term for a mania/obsession that is detrimental to social skills such as cars/history/anime/etc. Also. Just because we are online doesn't make this any less of the real world! You still have to get to know someone before deciding they are "the one" or good enough to date. And intimidating part of the population by your "ideal" list isn't going to help. And just because they pass the list doesn't mean you are any better of a fit. Someone can be perfect on paper, but you just don't work in reality.

@miya I don't think yudodat was shaming the original poster but just stating that in a pragmatic sense, you'd (and honestly should) care more about a potential significant other than just their gaming hobbies. For me personally, I don't particularly like when guys do any such thing like having a list of wants or wanting someone to do something with them because while it's true that relationships are you sharing your lives with each other, it's also about compromise. Like I'm pretty cool about dating someone who likes anime even though I'm not too into it, but for some people that'd be a deal breaker. And when someone states I want so and so, and then follows that up with pretty inflexible language, well then, that's kinda a turn off.
