DREAMS

I wonder If I have any dreams? I have goals like being proficient at japanese, losing fifty pounds, or graduating from college. But those seem more of a to do list ,then dreams of the future. I wonder,its like tunel vision I can only see whats imedately in front of me. Is there a future for some one that can only see and pursue the presnt?

Kurokame, I would say yes. My goal has been a constantly moving target all my life. I started college as an art major, graduated in Biology, and got a Masters in Geology (Paleontology). Even in my 20 year stint with Mobil Oil I started as a Biostratigrapgher and ended up a field geologist, core interpreter and Siesmic Interpreter. I now work in a hobby shop. You sound a lot like me. Follow your tunnel vision to the next "goal" and split off from there. Just keep in mind you need to eat.

I want to become a dictator and create a global superpower comparable to that of the Roman Empire. If that plan doesn't work out, then I want to be a writer, a professor,a translator, a lawyer, or some sort of businessperson. Perhaps a combination of all of these. If I won the lottery, I'd probably start up an animation company and start turning good American fiction/scifi into Anime shows, like LE Modesitt's Corean Chronicles or the Saga of Recluce.

I'd love to start my own business and become financially independent. Aside from that, I'd say becoming a physicist and finding someone I can love is pretty much all I want at the moment. Corny, but true.

Kick my addiction to dreaming all while becoming a respected member in the social circles of the worlds greatest psychologist, a breed between Bf skinner and Freud.. without the cocain.

Dreams and goals? I dream of being able to retire or work in something that's not WORK. Not to leave a life of luxury, but just a life of fun and comfort. How I get there, I'm almost following Kurokame's idea of just letting the river of life take me. Maybe with a bit of paddling. @Ridingcatbus: How's paleontology? It was the THING I wanted to be as a kid. Still do love dinosaurs and prehistoric birds/mammals.

Paleontology got me a 20 year career as an overpaid oil company geologist. Outside the oil industry the only Paleo jobs are with museums. My suggestion is you find out what you like and follow that dream. Even if you don't get rich, you won't have regrets. And yes, dinosaurs rule! But there is a whole area of Paleo called Micropaleontology that deals with just microscopic fossils. Basically a fossil record of the ocean's plankton. Some folks specialise in coprolites (fossil poo).
