(LOL at the tiny message length thing. Not good for people who frequent rp forums at ALL) III. Learning Japanese Japanese is a royal pain in the ass to learn. Like most otaku (I'd say I began my otaku craze around elementary school) I wanted to learn it so hell, I signed up. It's so hard at first, but eventually, with enough hours sitting in math class re-writing characters over and over you get the hang of it. The best advice I can give you is to A. Get a hiragana/katakana practice book. Only do a page a week, or however long it takes your mind to effortlessly write them. (Even if it's sloppy at first) B. Listen to native speakers and talk to people in Japanese as often as you can. Spending time with my friends in Neyagawa and writing letters to my Japanese Friends sort of forces me into speaking decently. If anyone speaks Japanese, try to talk to them, even if you make a fool of yourself. IV. Study Kanji eventually. <---Currently on this part. V. NEVER GIVE UP! It's hard, but this is the major I want. Everytime I see a message from my Japanese friends it reminds me how much I want it. It's also eye-opening to learn any language. IV. GWAH. ╰BUNKER DOWN FOR THE MESSAGE RANT╮ Now in a convenient outline! I. About a High School Con. That would have been awesome, but I live in a populous city and the restrictions at our school are hella strict. Only high school students can come to events, blah blah blah. BLAH. BLAH. Our school is also very normal. Out of 1,800 students 40 of us make up the Japanese club. The rest are blonde and tan. It would have created bad press as if anything weird had happened, they would take it as an excuse to yank us down. I'm already upset because I can't graduate with Japanese honors because that isn't a thing anymore, but Spanish, French, German and EVEN LATIN Honors are. II. About Cosplaying Don't ever say you can't find a character. Anything is possible. Even if you don't think you look like a character with enough effort it will be fine! I was skeptical about doing Karkat Vantas as he's grey, a guy, and totally unlike me but after two hours of makeup and lots of other more torturous stuff I could hardly recognize myself! That's the fun of cosplay! (You can never outdo the guy who decided to do both Chi and Konata this one year at this convention. He had to be thirty eight and his mini-skirt knee-socked hairy legs will plague my mind always. NOW THAT'S A BAD DECISION.)
