I hope than answers any question you had. If not, feel free to ask away. :3 As a plus all the Tales and Trails games are currently on sale on Steam.

Sent you a friend request to DM you, but then I realized I could just drop the info on your wall instead of waiting. XD To answer your question though, it depends more on what you are looking for in a game. The games Tales series are all mostly self contained one and done affairs. They use an action rpg system, so battles are real time and play like a light fighting game. The Trails series is (currently) a 9 game long interconnected narrative split into (again currently) 3 separate arcs. Each arc has its own main story focus, with an overall plot tying everything together (presently said to be about 60% done). Battles are turn based, and some of the bosses can require some strategic thought. Due to the extensive narrative, world building, and character development, the games (especially those at the start of each arc) tend to be slow burn with BIG payoff later affairs.

Onizuka @averageboss If you decide on the Tales series, the 3 common standouts are Tales of Symphonia (the classic choice, and first 3d game in the series), Tales of Berseria (the newest one, and has gotten great reception), and Tales of Vesperia (the only one I have played myself so far, but I remember loving it back in the day).

Onizuka @averageboss For the Trails series, due to the narrative structure, there are only two entry points I would recommend. Trails in the Sky FC, if you want to start from the very beginning and see everything unfold in chronological order. Or Trails of Cold Steel 1 (game 6 in the timeline) if you want a much more modern game (there will be references to past characters and events, but they are not necessary to understand the central plot of CS1 itself, but you probably will get more out of the game knowing those past events and characters).
