godspell @godspell I believe it's one take you could go. But you have to keep in mind there are good isekais. Inuyasha and devil a part timer are isekais reverse style

Lamby @momoichi devil is a part timer doesnt count because the devil is going over, he isnt transported against his will. inuyasha you could make a better argument for, and while in spirit it is an isekai because of the spirited away trope, it doesnt fit to modern isekais, which are largely, nearly entirely, trash. they are all the same, 0 originality. kumo desu ga nani ka was the rare exception because the author actually thought of a really kool plot and concept for their novel, with actually good character development and world growth. the twist is really REALLY good. i hear slime is also a good one, i need to give that a try, but starting from 0 and actually working your way up is the only good way to handle an isekai. kumo's growth feels SO earned and none of her near death experiences ever feel like ass pulls because the author bothered setting things up before hand to justify these things (like her having toxic immunity from eating that bug that one time, a great call back)

Lamby @momoichi plus wasnt rudy literally a pedophile canonically? and hes our hero? and hes totally responsible with his powers? like, i kinda liked tensei, but i hated rudy as a protagonist. why make him such a shitty dude? how could i ever root for him when he was bad and continues to be bad and his 'omg im a neet im so shy oh no' bullying trauma was resolved IMMEDIATELY when it could have been a mini arch in and of itself. but no, cant have nice things, every fucking isekai has to have all the substance of a bag of chips

The rise of the shield hero is a framed issekai hero who starts with no support and everyone hatting on him. No game no life is a classic. Lamby @momoichi hard to control my caps lock on this kind of discussion, because it genuinely gets my riled up. kaneki ken. kaneki ken has gone through a lot, youd agree? what happened with him post torture? he changed. forever. even re his ptsd still followed him and he was NEVER the same kind forgiving, merciful guy he once was. subaru was tortured always similarly. multiple times actually hes tortured i believe. what happened to his character? ptsd... AND THEN HES THE EXACT SAME AS HE WAS AT THE STARTED OF THE SEASON! HAPPY GO LUCKY! oh they try and use the 'my smile is a facade im traumatized!' but thats cheap. when your mind is broken it is broken. kaneki ken and shironeki are not the same character, because trauma has changed him forever. shironeki is still like kaneki, in the manga he still is kind to others and can smile and enjoys the thinsg he use to, but he is not kaneki ken. homura. her development happens technically off screen, but she has faced trauma, has seen her friends killed and has killed them by her own hand, has held a gun to her own head countless, countless, countless times. she is different. she is hardened. she was changed. even in the movie in her fantasy land where she larps her old innocence she is still homura the witch at the heart. she is still traumatized over madoka's countless deaths. subaru? foundamentally the same character. subaru has gone through the torture of kaneki and the time fuckery of homura and is less traumatized than either of them. gabimaru is the worst imo because he LITERALLY basically says "i dont want to kill you. BUT O BOY HERE I GO KILLIN AGAIN' hes ment to be another shironeki esc character but hes shironeki with no development from kaneki.only the edge badass without really getting to see who he use to be, with that, the true tragedy of who he could have been. his wife thing was kinda interesting, but hes insufferable with his edge try hardness. i stopped reading hells paradise because i was enjoying following the other characters and then gabimaru came back into the pov and i had to take a break. i couldnt.

godspell @godspell Saburu is difficult you really have to be able to pick things up for him. The author is honestly a genius in writing characters. The author is so specific that he chooses colors for saburu that you don't realize have meaning. Orange and black for example. Orange means change instead of joy. Black means death. Combine that with his unoriginal design to show he has nothing remarkable to back him up

godspell @godspell I understand that people do not enjoy him. But this man self sacrificing. You say him pretending to smile and keep going like nothing going wrong. He isn't sane at all he is neurotic at best when no one watching. He has convinced himself that he does everything for Emilia to give him a focal point to return to for his sanity. It has been stated different points in the story I do it for her. I will for her

Lamby @momoichi kek, the author 100% lost to his friend in the isekai department. the comedy one is way better and knows what it is atleast. i have the first novel, forget the name, but its genuinely funny. subaru isnt complex, hes lazily written. they want their cake and to eat it too. they want to get the emotional shock of torturing subaru, but dont want to maintain any character change because goodness forbid the person watching cant self insert as him anymore. i mean idk about the symbolism of his clothing, but theres nothing there. even okarin was a better written character than subaru, his struggle was way more realistic and the ending of steins;gate was clever and sad (nvm the sequal or movies sshshhhh those dont exist)

Lamby @momoichi i saying he isnt written well. its convienent that he can bottle it up and put on a brave face when hes gone through as much as both kaneki and homura have and neither of them are able to hide their trauma. even haise was literally haunted by his past because to put his trauma behind him he had to develope did and become a whole new person to separate himself from what happened to him

godspell @godspell I'm not sure. I feel like you drop the series after half way in season 1. Season 3 coming out soon. So I better re-watch. Oh it's there he isn't sane at all. It breaks out but I hear it gets worse for him season 2. Even more so in season 3

Lamby @momoichi oh, ill be fair, wasnt there a moment when he wanted to kill himself to escape the pressure he was under? thats an actual response to that kind of stress, but they didnt go anywhere with it and he never got o that level again. his peak was wanting to kill himself, and it was all smooth sailings after that

Lamby @momoichi noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i HATED re zerosince mid season. i finished season 1 because i wanted to properly be able to say it was shit without hearing "finish the season." i didnt just finish season 1, i got to mid season 2 before washing my hands finally of that pseudo-emotional trash. oh yeeaahh. well, homura had to kill herself too to restart time, and ajin used killing themselves as a really clever way to recover from injuries. i think they wrote subaru into a corner. how can he cope with this trauma when he cant even kill himself to resolve it, and they also had to keep it relatable for the person to be able to self insert as subaru. subaru never collapsed under incomprehensible pressure, and thats pretty stupid. lack of character development (especially after extreme events) is a crutch in writing, and a sign of a shitty writer

godspell @godspell Because he's placed Emilia on this huge pedestal as the focal point to grip him in reality which is why season 3 will be nuts. If he doesn't have her how will he cope

godspell @godspell Saburu will start not to flinch anymore. He'll see any of his friends dying as nothing anymore. Lose body parts just to go confirm his suspicions for the next issue he has to go through before dying again. Because he'll be eerily calm casting his humanity aside

Lamby @momoichi kaneki was fighting for people. homura was fighting for madoka. they still changed perminantly as characters. people grow and people change and conform largely to their environment, its a very very human trait. lack of this trait is lack of humanity in your character, they just become a caricature. im trying to think of suitable character growth that would be good for subaru but i actually cant think of any. like i said i think the writers messed up by torturing him so bad because there is no realistic or even semi-realistic way a person could grow or transform from that without becoming a villain kek. what, isnt he pride or something? and there is another pride? so theres another him? tell me if im miss remembering, but is that the angle the anime is taking? that he will become a villain? or am i thinking the double people being emilia and that witch?

godspell @godspell But they have powers. Saburu has legit nothing he's trash at everything else besides his power to reset. If he becomes the villain at the end that would be great. His powers originate from the villain of the story.

Lamby @momoichi i havent finished it but im really close to the end. tokyo revengers is good, but i have a soft spot for delinquent manga. it has a power scaling issue, massive power scaling issue actually, everyone is the toughest in tokyo lol. its good, but i hate that the main guy never actually tries to exercise and learn to fight and jsut relies on others. every arc he has someone to help him lol. like every arc is 'hes weak but going again the biggest guy! someone help him!' and the new friend helps him, but like, he never tries to exercise and get actually wrong xD think he did once and never again. i loved the reveal with the original main bad guy and how he died. that was great, my mouth was gaping. and the whole 'save me' thing was really sweet from tommy or whatever his name is. gave me madoka homura vibes. kinda hated how weak every girl is though, even when theyr hyped up to be super strong. but again, power scaling issue. Out is better though. way better. i need to read more og delinquent manga but Out is top tier, way better than tokyo revengers

Things he wanted to do different. So this Manga is a letter of himself on what could be if he was the main character saving his friends

Lamby @momoichi the reason subaru is different from kumo is because kumo had to struggle and claw her way out of a labryth to be strong. and she got strong. all on her own. and her becoming a god basically fits with the universe and works well. its deserved, its earned, and it works in the universe, because the admins are above even gods, so shes still not the most op. subaru doesnt really grow or get stronger, this isnt an mmo universe where you can work on stats and level up. hes hopeless start to finish, again the same character. kumo grows up, builds resolve, is petty and a genuinely cruel person at times to those she feels wronged her (for canonical reasons as well, not just cause) for a spider shes a very human character. and her shyness isnt thrown away like rudy, shes genuinely an introvert through the entire story.

KEK your gonna hate me but yeah i finally watched helluvaboss and FUCKING HATED IT LOL holy shit vivi just uses it as her own animated wattpad for her fujo fanfic. and the MISOGYNY HOLY SHIT! not an episode goes by when a woman isnt called a c*nt/whore/bitch! largely for no reason or the outlash is unwarrented! fizz is the only amazing character, and lust was the only truly good episode, but even that was ruined by blitzo, because everything revolves around the male cast. not A SINGLE fleshed out female character. you can not name me ONE. they are all side characters used to flesh out the male characters. thank FUCK that studio took away so much wrting power from viv for hazbin hotel because she can truly not help herself from writing pure fujo fanfics and throwing away the actual plot! oh but also that cowboy bad guy was pretty kool. the animation is also way better than it has any right to be. very fun to watch.

godspell @godspell Isn't that because they're in hell and it's commonplace for that? The character designs are still brilliant. I want to believe it portrays women as a pillar of support like millie and Luna. Blitz makes me sad everytime I watch him. He's so self destructive and believes he'll die alone. He has so much self hate he draws over his face on every picture he's in

godspell @godspell Loona we're slowly fleshing her out. With the party it helps show she has trouble fitting in or relating to people. She has trouble connecting with gluttony just bc she believes everyone against her or feels like she has to hate her bc she's with Tex (Dex?)

Lamby @momoichi then why dont the men ever get attacked the same way? the characters are over designed, its hard to keep up with some of them. moxie and millie are well designed, same with stolas, but blitzo is over designed to hell and back. fizz has the best design/voice actor. but its just as you said. they are pillars of support. not real characters. luna is the same as stolas's daugher, a device that allows what good parents they are. i havent seen the newest episode, but i heard its again, not something that fleshes luna out, but again ends up being a blitzo pity party. havent seen it yet but i 100% believe it because that is how every episode ends. even lust shafted any millie character growth (yet again it was 'millie protacc moxie >:( ') and ended up being all about stolas and blitzo. millie is just the great gf and luna is just the edgy daughter. there is no millie without moxie, but there is a moxie without millie, and there is a blitzo without luna, but no luna without blitzo.

But I also understand Blitz feels like a victim being used by everyone even though stollas is one of the people he cares for. But man I wish we could see millie and Luna grow as characters. They seem put together characters but I feel like everyone else they are flawed. Moxie abused by his father was great since his father just treats him as a tool and thinks gays are gays nothing different from bisexual

Lamby @momoichi see? if it was a luna episode, why are you feeling for stolas and blitzo. this cartoon use to be about going to the human world to kill people for revenge. when was the last time that was? how are they keeping the lights on? and this isnt even shafted for plot growth, wev seen greed and lust, but no real world building. visit and leave and it looks the exact same as everywhere else. none of the characters have grown, not even the stars, stolas and blitzo. they are the same as the beginning, except blitzo cant stop crying now. around 16 episodes, and they are the same people. so if vivi isnt interested in expanding on them or the plot (we had a SINGLE return villain in how many villains?! the cherubs disappeared, the d.o.r.k's are gone, only the cowboy guy, who admittedly seems like an interesting character) im gonna keep watching it, but only because im curious how this shit show will finally sink kek
