Right place at the right time, maybe? It's more along the lines of, I have a reputation for taking on any new technologies that come to the lab. My boss knew that I learn fast, so he asked if I could cover it until they find a proper replacement that can dedicate their full time to it. I have many other responsibilities, so I can't do it forever. I also have the task of training the replacement.

Someone retired and took all of his knowledge and expertise with him. I get to cover for him, so I am the acting USB expert for my lab. I need to be able to debug issues and have a full understanding of the subsystem to find flaws and suggest changes/improvements. If anyone finds a problem with the subsystem, they will come to me, so I need to be ready for it.
