Finally watched the Ghost in the Shell live action movie. I'm not sure if I was disappointed or not. I'm one of the few that didn't care about the "whitewashing" leading up to the film... but Johanson just plain sucks in this film. I thought she was fine in the Avengers movies, but her acting, dialogue, and action scenes just strait up were bad. Batou's trademark goggle eyes looked stupid af... and I swear half the time they didn't even look strait. Like, sometimes one looked higher up on his face than the other. The intricacies of the original film were stripped down, which I can understand, but they also added a REAL past to the Major. A factual past. Then got hyped when they mentioned the spider tank in the inevitable showdown at the end, but even that was disappointing. I suppose I was disappointed overall, but those bastards tricked me into questioning myself because once the end credits started to roll, and disappointment SHOULD have set in, they began playing the original song from the original movie... and it filled me with happiness.

Well, I don't necessarily regret watching it, for what that's worth xD I felt they pissed in the faces of Masamune Shirow and Mamoru Oshii with some of the changes they made... but it's to be expected in a Hollywood film that's based on another source. Some of the background imagery really did feel like GitS, and there are some scenes that are directly from the original film, and references to the 2nd film, such as Batou's dog and the geishas. It's worth watching as long as bad acting, cheesy dialogue, and Batou's stupid face don't bother you. The changes made to the story are to b expected. And hearing the original song play during the end credits filled me with warm fuzzies.
