Shadow Hearts: Covenant
I took over a month just to finish the main story and that was on 2 discs for the PlayStation 2.
Yeah, that's right! 2 discs for a PS2 game! The orginal Shadow Hearts is terrible to play through, but the second game Covenant slammed the ball out of the park.
I am a huge fan of Yuri Hyuga's character in particular. He is the exact fusion of Resident Evil 4's Leon S. Kennedy's campy sass with Dante of Devil May Cry's powers and stylish bravdo!
The Judgement Ring can take some getting used to when entering commands, but it adds an interesting mechanic as to whether a move misses or does critical damage. In other words, if you are good at rhythem games then you won't ever miss.
The plot is wholly original with it being on Gintama levels of stupid referential gag humor mixed with a very deep and serious plot about a man moving forward with his life after the death of someone he failed to save.
Villians in particular are awesomely hoaky, however still intimidating and weirdly sympathetic...
Except for Rasputin. Fuck that guy he's a dick!
