I did but my ring came out looking nice. Unless you look at the details you can't even tell it is a class ring. A lot of people go with birthstones but I went with Onyx because , onyx... also our mascot was a 'black diamond'. It's more like a keepsake, but yeah 200-300 is a rip off. I only wore it my Sr yr.
