So I just joined this site a few hours ago (yay, newbie) and I've already noticed a couple bugs as well as how...simple and not-so-moderated the forums and such seem to be. Does anyone know the details as to the origin of this site?
Sephiroth is the administrator, web master for this site. I believe he runs a few other sites, Cecil knows the best out of all of us. I can't speak on Sephiroth's behalf, I believe he knows what he's doing but he seems to be really busy, as far as I know he's listed as "staff" for a bunch of conventions so I don't know what that means.
I've heard of people letting their sites self suffice for a while without any updates or changes, yeah the forum is really simple and there are bugs but we have no control over that. This site does some sort of advertising, I just don't know how much.
Ah okay, thanks. :) I wasn't trying to comment on the competence of the webmaster or anything, I was just wondering if he/she was just really busy or decided to let us all manage on our own.
The forum is indeed simple: I think that's what gives it charm. Sure, there are some functions I wouldn't mind it having...but the lack of them isn't the end of the world.
As far as the advertising goes, I've only ever seen it advertised at conventions. I think with more advertising, MaiOtaku could become a lot more popular...though to be honest, I wouldn't want it to become TOO popular: I really like the sorta homey/niche feeling of the community.
If it became more popular, I don't know if it would really hurt. There might be more of a chance for singles in their own state to meet instead of most of us spread out. It will never be as big as okaycupid or plentyofish and I don't know of many othr dating sites that cater to otaku.
As far as I know, there aren't any other sites that cater to otaku; though it's not like I've searched for others. And that's what I mean by "too" popular: more popularity would be good for just those reasons, but any more popularity and you start getting trolls and other people of the like.
I suppose. it's laughable because I haven't had any success here other than some back and forth posting but at least there is a "stage". With the more popular sites, the males send out messages en masse and the contents are usually distasteful. I would like to think nice guys have a chance here. There is no one from MN though.
Haha yeah, same here. Though to be honest, I started out on this site with zero expectations. And I wouldn't say "no one"...you've tried the search function, right? I do agree that there are those states who literally only have no more than ten people (if that) but I mean...there's at least one or two people from every state, I would say.
Yeah, I think it all just comes down to whether or not people are active. And that's true. It just seems like the potential for friend-zoning here is ridiculously high
Dude. I just said the same thing in someone's profile. I don't know why that is, unless it's the structure or layout of the site or just the fact everyone is spread out and no one in their right mind wants a long distance relationship.

If Mai Otaku continues to advertise in some fashion at conventions, it might pick up steam depending in which state the con is located.
