I feel like it's because of the fact that there is a laid-out process to all this, it's easy to just stop somewhere in the middle (and BAM, friend-zoned)

Well mostly it develops as an introduction, maybe flirting or just talking casually. I've been trying to build connections but people don't always respond to your comments. I just think it has to do with the culture of anime and conventions. Everyone is here to get to know each other but no one is really agressive.

Yeah, true. Plus, most people here aren't outgoing/are shy so that's doubly true.
