What got you through a time of serious depression?

drako2k0
Music always helps, especially when ti matches the mood I am feeling. Makes it easier to let it go. Also my video games gave me a great outlet for when I was depressed. I dunno, it always helped me feel better taking the most overly powerful weapons of mass destruction, and using it on a group of the weakest enemies in existence.

aoiyosei- I agree, I would always just listen to happy anime openings over and over. It was very amusing! xD Axel- And yeah, exercise was another thing that my counselor recommended and I do agree. I started running and not only did it help me slim down, but it really made me think straight. :D drako2k0- Yeah, music was a top thing that helped me. I can't go a day without listening to my music. The video game thing sounds like a good outlet in a way also. Nothing wrong with wanting to use mass weapons of destruction. xD Thanks for your guys replies. c:

Got through? I feel like its just something you have to deal with

Laddrusso there are stages of depression, while every deals with some quite commonly, deeper depressions are a lot more crippling. Hence strategies to cope are important. Ahoy, the weapons alone weren't enough in my games lol. It was the combination of using such overly powerful weapons on excruciatingly weak enemies. Massive overkill is always a good way to make me smile lol.

You can or you can do something to help you deal with it. I stopped trying to deal with most of my depression on my own and finally got helped. I couldn't be happier. Sure, I feel a bit down at times, but it's not like you're gonna get over it that quickly. But hey, everyone is different on how they deal with themselves. :)

Ahoycaptainkid - Knowing when you need help, and seeking it out on your own. You are a very strong person. I admire you for having the strength to seek aid from others. I wish more were like you.

If you mean clinical depression then, Not to sound depressing, (ironically) but for me it wasn't some special inspirational advice, or moment. It was a combo of drugs in the form of serotonin re-uptake inhibitors and cognitive behavioral therapy. <--- this got me to be confident again. Then to make sure i wouldn't be seriously sad ever again, i took life by the horns and forced myself out of the circumstances which made me sad. <--- this applies to just being sad normally as well as clinical depression.

Escapism. Find some way to keep your mind occupied, whether be the arts, work, or relaxing. Arts, writing, music, video games, cooking, whatever takes your mind off of everything. PROTIP: Don't use alcohol or drugs as escapism, it doesn't end well.
