I've been trying to get a Japanese cookbook for years. I was late in tasting Japanese food, or eastern food in general, because my mother is incredibly prejudiced when it comes to food. My first taste of ramen, however, sold me entirely. Ramen, yakisoba, udon, oden, teriyaki chicken with rice, sushi.... Oh god, sushi.... I am in love with sushi.... I plan on learning how to cook various recipes, and how to make my own sushi. In fact, my brother has a glorious kitchen and an appreciation for Japanese cuisine, so I might end up treating him and his wife one of these days. Oden and nabe are the two that I want to try foremost. Anyone have suggestions for those two?

I made some Udon and Yakisoba for fun. It's interesting to make Japanese food, though I suggest a Wok if you plan to make pan fried foods.

I've have been to Japan multiple times and there are many different foods out there, and some different depending on the city you go to!

i love making bentos....my signature is the kuro-neko oigiri..basically a riceball with crab and cream cheese in the center and seaweed cut into a cat face shape..little dots of wasabe for the eyes and matchstick carrot slices for whiskers....and tamagoyaki is fast and quick..better if you get the right pan for it..and you can do pretty much anything with a good wok, and a decent ricecooker...i cook a lot of eastern and middle-eastern foods...catfish fusion rolls are fun too...half my lunches for work make my employees ask what the heck country i think i live in lol...but lately a bunch of simple stir fry with fresh ingredients only...I bought out the local grocer of bok choy for like two months straight one time...one of the maintenence guys took to calling me rice burner cause I was living on rice and catfish for like a half a year so I got really inventive and even dirt poor you can make some great japanese cuisine....and it's a lot healthier than most american fare
