There is an app called Meetup their are groups on there you can join. You get alerts for meet ups to go to events. I recently found the Mid-atlantic con goers group and joined it. Guys look into it. Their might be some near you. You can also start your own groups on there.

Im downloading the app right now! :3 I've on an app downloading streak since i got my new i pod touch and the 12+ lock was FINALLY TAKEN OFF!!!! =.= I went 2 years only downloading 4+ apps

Forgot to mentioned is a website also. I have it on my droid.
