its basic survival instincts to judge someone by their looks its social conditioning that tells you who and what to fear, and its up to you to decide for yourself generally the more estrogen a woman has the more soft and feminine her features are generally the more testosterone a man has the more masculine he looks, and both are good indicators for breeding however, humans are not tied to this as we can fall for someone who isnt our type or the typical beauty but based on personality, which is beautiful style is also a good indicator of your hobbies, interests, personality and the potential compatibility without even talking to you, so it is important everyone judges to a degree, whats important is finding someone whos interested in knowing you better because declaring you are your appearance

so "does looks really matter to most people?", you know the answer. Most people won't be interested in knowing ur minds if ur looks aren't acceptable to them in real life.In some cases like the person is rather rich, people may hesitate... Good news is that most people who don't have apparent facial flaws will look fine if they actually pay some attention to their bodies;skin;hairstyles and clothes...Heh,obesity isn't an issue in Asia.. Few people like unkempt people...Being unkempt≈Not being able of taking care of themselves→not to mention taking care of other people.... What's more, all looks are acceptable to those truly desperate people.. Online, we can attract people first with our minds, many people care more about minds once they know how great/beautiful your minds are~Thank you, Internet! In the cases of choosing someone to be in a longterm relationship with, obviously personality>looks.Good personality+normal looks: favorable

Depends, What you are is often who you attract. Personally, Taking care of personal hygiene is very important to me, Aswell as being healthy, so exercising is aswell. You don't need to be a model, but know how you treat yourself is also a showing of your character. And personally I wouldn't want to be with someone who doesn't take care of themselves. It's all up to the individual however in the end.

Yes, but moreover attraction to the partner is important. Objective good looks are far less important than if that person is actually attracted to you.

Attraction isn't 100% based on looks. While that's a part of it, it's also important of how you present yourself and how you interact with people around you.

Didn't someone already make this a thread? Anyway, going off what Xueli said, looks can often tell more about somebody than one may think other than we consider the person "beautiful" or not. The reason why obese people are not considered attractive is because obesity is objectively a health problem, contrary to what some SJWs who whine about "fat-shaming" say. So by being obese, we can see you are unhealthy and unhealthy people undesirable because we want healthy offspring, and obese parents tend to have obese kids. I don't meant to make my point about obesity, but that is an obvious example. Other physical problems like deformities can convey the same message... unhealthy, flawed. I guess I can summarize my point like this: Looks matter for reproduction, not necessarily for romance. But for people who want to spend the rest of their life with someone, wanting kids will be a topic of discussion, so someone will probably have to consider if the person they want to be with will be a good partner for having kids with, the criteria is for the person. For me personally, I'm not sure if I want kids or not yet, but if I do, I certainly want them to be healthy, and I'd rather have a woman who can assure me healthy children.
