What I'm talking about it's partially what started the crusades actually. The middle East powers started consolidating their strength and pushed west on Africa, ultimately reaching modern day Morocco, lots of caliphate's being established, back then Spain was a bunch of Visigothic remnants who were fighting for dominance over the region, problem is, the Arabs set sail for Granada, then pushed north... Then north... Then north... Then they went East and started destroying every single kingdom on their path. The crusades were called to fend off this invasion.

Back then, Christians had already tried to assemble to halt the push but were crushed numerous times, they just got lucky at Tours. This is why Spain has so much influence on their architecture from the middle East, because a portion of their lands were governed by installed Caliphate's
