If it is across multiple days, don't expect to sleep. If you are going as a popular character, expect to be glomped. Bring a lot of money, you will need it. Always ask before you take someone's photo.
- Go with at least one or two other friends so you have some people around you who know you. It's great to interact and meet with new people, but it's good to have that familiarity with friends as well and they can help split costs of hotel rooms, gas, etc.
- SHOWER AND/OR BATHE. There's a lot crammed into a 3 day weekend and you can get pretty hot and sweaty and hence smelly. Nothing is a bigger turn off in meeting new people if you have really bad BO.
- Try to get some sleep. Even if it's just four or five hours a night. You'll want to have fun, but not completely burn yourself out too much.
Yeah, I made a few friends last time I went to otakon. I was so funny, I even earned a free jawbreaker. Just start talking to people while you wait in line. They are just as nice as we are here, usually.
Oh, and the biggest con tip i can give you, wear comfortable shoes. The lines can get pretty long. You'll be standing and walking every where.
Yeah I have to agree with the advice from everyone atm. Maybe bringing in your own food would be good to cut cost if you want since food can be a bit pricey in the cons.
