Anyone here embarrassed to be a US Citizen

A couple of my college friends went over to Japan via the Jet program to teach english and pretty much stayed afterward and got married. Still chat with them occasionally via skype when the time zone differential allows it! XD They like it quite a bit after living there for about 10 years now and one of them just had his second child. I'd love to visit one day when funds and time allow, but I don't know if I'd ever personally want to live there myself and be away from my family and friends here.

@BlackFreesia Definitely! I'm working on my Japanese and stuff and I do have a friend with family over in Japan, so if I needed to know something I could always ask her. Of course, if Japan doesn't work out there is Hong Kong too and that in itself is also a fine place to live.

@blackfreesia, even if I were around yours guys age, I still don't think I'd want to leave the US. I didn't at that time either. Studying for a semester abroad or something along those lines sure, but not living their permanently. Nothing against you guys who do want to go and live over there though. Hope you guys are able to make it happen!

I'm actually proud to be a US citizen, however I do feel embarrassed at alot of the things our fellow Americans do, and how ignorant they can be, not to mention our government and the $14 Trillion debt we dug ourselves into, it makes other nations take us and our currency as a joke, So yeah I can understand where the OP is coming from. Regardless we are one of the first countries to obtain Freedom and independence, not to mention we help several countries as well, so it's not THAT bad. Best way put every place has it's share of rotten apples but not ALL of it's apples are rotten. Just my 2 cents.

The majority of our leaders are unintelligent or just selfish. And since they make up the majority, it gives the good willed senators and representatives a bad rep. It's hard for anyone to change our system for the better.
