Anyone here embarrassed to be a US Citizen

masuji
Ever since I went to China when I was 16 I have been very conscious of our country's poor etiquette and its political tendencies. These have been push factors for me to eventually emigrate, because I believe the "American Dream" is dead because we have politicians on Capitol Hill who think its right for everyone to live their life according to US traditions. I also get upset every time a US based person or company says or does something so controversial the whole world is talking about it in a matter of hours. I do like Japan and China more than the US because I always make friends with Asian people I meet, I can speak Chinese and I am learning Japanese and I have just been, overall, pleased with their culture. Not to say China doesn't have its own problems as a nation but I'm a whole lot more content to follow Japanese or Chinese customs than US customs. Does anyone here, like me, just want to gouge their ears out when we hear the US has, once again, done something seriously stupid? It makes me wish I was born in any developed nation but here.

Embarrassed to be a US citizen? Hell no! I respect what our country on paper represents and and the men who died so I can sit here on a lazy Sunday morning and drink coffee without having to worry about someone blowing up my house or locking me up because I said something wrong. Am I embarrassed by how retarded some of our citizens are and by our leaders in Washington? No argument there. Corrupt bunch of jackasses on both sides of the isle and a lot of people in general are too stupid to understand the real problems this country has.

I'm not embarassed to be an American, but I am embarassed by what it's become recently.

I agree with everything you said Masuji. Japan, when you get down to it, is just smarter.

@Cecil I get where you come from. I have an uncle who just retired from the military and I don't disrespect his work, and I do not mean disrespect towards the US's original mission but that's pretty much a dead dream. I feel like no matter who we have in office is going to do something wrong: Its like with the current candidates: I could've voted for a guy who we know how he does it, he's not bad on civil rights or anything but he has committed some major mistakes such as the continued pissing contests with the middle east. Then we have the businessman whose VP is a fascist civil rights hater and who we cannot anticipate his policies.

@Blackfreesia I really hope one day Japan won't have to rely on the US for its military force and stuff.I want nothing of the return of the pre WWII Japan but I want Japan to eventually renounce its ties to the US and make it's own decisions. For instance it is our laws that we put over there that censor their porn and make it so they rely on us if NK attacks. They're at our mercy 70 years later and thats unacceptable.

You see it is true that the American Dream has died down a lot over this last few years but I would say I am not embarrassed to be an American citizen. As Cecil said I am embarrassed by our government officials representing us and how messed up our political system has become. Yet when you look at our issues in respect to other countries they are not so different either. It is either you go from one trouble-ridden country to another. It doesnt change much sadly. All countries have problems especially in this age. Just my two cents.

Well we've done this to Japan to halt their emperial motives. Those kind of governments always turn out bad (wwII) But once the last of the older generation are gone, and the younger (more westernized) generation take over. I REALLY hope Japan gets it's independance back.

^ Thats what I was referring to BlackFreesia. Sadly, lol, they have the longest life expectancy of any major country so that will be a long time.... And I am more than willing to leave, another reason being I don't want to ever be forced to serve for a war I dont support and I feel, if I don't leave when I'm young and have less attachment here, I won't be able to because of attachments later on.

That's the exact same way I feel. If you ever decide to move to Japan contact me. It'd be easier to move there if we know someone.
