The problem I always have with discussions on equality is that they often only focus on what the man has that the woman does not. Women do receive special treatment that is not afforded to men. It makes them come off as only wanting to have our toys without sharing their own. This breeds frustration and resentment. Sure, when you're in a serious relationship you're batting for both teams so it's hard to loose. If you are not it just looks like you're being scammed. A few non-subjective examples: * Opportunity to receive scholarships. * Amount of time off for having a kid. * Generally more safety nets that provide security and stability. EDIT: I should add I do support the notion of equality. I just don't think that's what's actually occurring.

Child support and custody is the biggest issue i feel in the family structure. Where its damn near impossible for men who legitimately want to be part of their kid's life arent given that chance. A man can also be put on child support for a kid that isnt biologically his.

The teamwork dynamic has been highlighted here. I'm not trying to discredit the value of that, but the individual perspective does very much matter as well. Imagine telling a woman that equality does not matter because they can just exercise those powers in their teamwork dynamic with their spouse. Enjoy the new title such a line would get you. Yet, that's effectively the phrasing society uses to shoot down expressions of male discontent: "well, your spouse is benefiting therefore you are, you should be happy", "man up", etc. This is the more subjective and harder to quantify aspect of inequality in favor of women.

@hell_hound7 Is the logic that the woman became dependent on the man and thus he has a duty to continue serving for their needs, which includes the child? That kind of makes sense to me, at least for a limited amount of time. It would need to be applied symmetrically.

Nah idk man child support kinda fucks people over. Especially people who go on to have another family. While yes its your obligation to take care of your child, if you impregnate someone and say you dont want the child and they still have it you are obligated to pay child support. But if you want the kid they can just kill it without consequence

I've worked with men before who have taken paternity leave. (just sayin....) And also to the comment above, you're comparing a fiscal responsibility to something more akin to morals. There's ALWAYS a chance of pregnancy when you have sex with someone. This is something that should be considered before entering into that physical limbo. "What happens if WE <(because it takes 2) get pregnant?, Am I ready to be a father? Is she ready to be a mother? Would I even want a child right now? Would I be willing to support this child financially even if the mother and I don't end up together?" That's what adulting in a perfect world would look like. If any of those answers are "no", then you should start shopping for inanimate options.

Regarding child support payments, do you want to know who gets fucked the most??? Even more than biological fathers who should be responsible? Let's say you're a twin Panda, an identical twin and you had bumper bumps with some lady.... and then soon thereafter, for some strange reason, your evil twin also bumper bumps with the same lady and then she gets pregnant. You can't distinguish enough the difference of DNA between identical twins, so guess who gets to pay child support? Both you and your brother. lul Honestly, a woman probably would just have to lie and say she had sex with the identical twin and the state agencies would still call him in to get paternity tested. A lot of shitty procedures and protocols are in place to manage child support payments through government entities but the reason why people go through agencies like that is because otherwise, some fathers won't pay --- who picks up the slack? The state tax payers via state paid programs such as TANF (formerly known as welfare), childcare (so the single parent can work), medicaid (because the single parent can't afford medical insurance on thier children), etc, etc. And even if the mother ends up with someone else, the state never recognizes that the boyfriend or step-father is ever responsible for that child UNLESS he legally adopts said child.

My dad never paid my brother's child support. In fact my mom remembers being in the hospital going into labor when my bro's mom called threatening to sue them if they didn't pay. So my mom ended up paying the past due amount and her own hospital bills to have me. My family's the best!
