I would rather push back the military thing to 21 than let 18 year olds drink. 18 year olds are typically fucking dumb. No offense, 18-year-olds.

@verucassault ehhh 21 is a bit too old. I joined at 20 but i sorta agree, i see alot of 18 year olds that join the military and are like "i dont know if this is for me" but you cant exactly just get out of your contractual obligations. There are some people that are bright eyed bush tailed ecstatic to join and serve their nation and then there are those doing it for college or some other ulterior motove and those are the ones that typically are miserable and hate their lives. They cant wait for anything more than to leave the armed services. I would say for some its more destructive than being able to drink. As i have seen typically with thw younger recruits they are more susceptible to commit suicide to get out of serving. Which doesnt make any sense, but when you are fresh out of highschool and dont know how hard real life really is, you get into a stressful situation such as the military with so much responsibility that you cant cope.

I would rather see our country have college cost less or is free, as are tech and trade schools. Everybody can expect to go into one after high school if they wish. Not only would it benefit our country that everyone is getting higher education, we would stop seeing certain fields in the sciences slip away being handed off to imports. It would take away one of the incentives for joining the military, but I don't really care about that. Have we not gotten to the point where soldiers aren't needed to wage wars? Small specialized units like the Seals, sure but not infantry.

i just read that you dont get money from doing military. what? they become homeless, thats crazy. is that true, now its like that? my step brother has been in the military for 20 years maybe and hes doing good. if lef hed be broke..

@siruboo They do receive military pay but there's a bunch of different factors. You get higher pay for rank, higher pay if you are active duty or not, years of service, etc. They also give housing allowances or subsidies. Anything received after you get out is retirement or disability due to service. You have to serve 20 years or more to get the retirement/military pension.
