Selling a massive 5000+ member discord server

manga_bird
How can you 'sell' a Discord server??? I thought Discord was free.
lilyyazawa
People sell their servers or give them away if they retire/move on. Discord is free, but bigger and active servers have value, for obvious reasons. 95% of servers don't sniff 5k members. Actually, it has over 5500+ members too. You're getting an active community, 5500+ members, everything is edited professionally and its a top 100 server for its category. Successful servers have some value. Mine isn't a 15k member server so its not worth as much, but still has value.
manga_bird
Value to what exactly? I mean, it's free to use, right? So what do you get out of it? Where does the 'value' come from?
lilyyazawa
Its free to use, but active and big servers take time and sweat to build. YouTube is free to use. However, accounts with more subs are simply more valuable. The value is acquiring a massive community and not need to build one up from scratch and hope you get extremely lucky. You get a community that succeeded and you're the owner of said community. Xat is free to use, but people there sell old accounts from 2007 and people buy them.
manga_bird
Yes, because YouTube accounts make revenue from videos - they have actual value. In this case it just sounds like you're volunteering to do a lot of work for nothing.

You're 100% wrong and simply giving your opinion on something but knowing very little of discord itself. Why give opinion when you barely use discord?

Explain how I'm wrong ¬ ¬ It's also inaccurate to say I hardly use Discord, more that I use it more like I'd use MSN messenger than a networking/social app - I spend most of the time talking to my contacts rather than in any of the servers.
lilyyazawa
You're wrong because just because you see no value in getting a massive discord itself doesn't mean others don't. Talking to your contacts isn't the same thing as wanting to run a server itself. You also ruined my thread and I'm not in mood to deal with this.

Here's one site that does it https://www.playerup.com/accounts/discordserver/
