I've heard that statement made once before. Can't say I buy it.
On an aside I did realize just now something comedic about referring to white people by the term Caucasian. Caucasian has Asian in the name. So when someone says, "why are you white people trying to be Asian?" and vise versa, I say because we're cousins not too far off the family tree.
Sure we speak a different language, but in my opinion white people and many Asians with some exceptions look basically the same.
You could point to eyes, but I'll present you Gilbert Gottfried. You could say that your skin is a different shade, however most white folks come in a variety of shades and tones. In the end I don't think what race a fictional character is matters. Culture and race are two separate entities.
That gets me on a tangent about another matter, but that was my hot take about "Why do anime characters not look like real people?"
