but she could. thats the issue. the very idea that someone can be born into a position of political power is ridiculous, and thats the problem with monarchism at its root. it wasnt just the famine, it was the years of persecution, being gunned down in the streets, the disputes between catholicism and protestantism, being stripped of your weapons, being called a rebel for trying to keep to your own traditions and uttering sovereignty for your country, being legally barred from speaking your mother tongue. ireland still speaks the language of their invaders and has lost many gaelic words thanks to english imperial efforts there and they STILL HOLD IRISH LAND! they ripped ireland in half, and brainwashed them into thinking that its good to be under the thumb of the tyrants that subjugated you! bloody sunday happened in the fucking 70s, and america was too fucking cucked to lift a finger to help these people. https://preview.redd.it/t8oonhmli9s51.png?auto=webp&s=1cc19882f1f1fe88d6587d9d56cc53a90346aadb

@momoichi and did the Irish Republican army go after the royals? No, they went after regular people including other Irish. This is something that always happens. The royals now were not oppressing the Irish. https://cdn.donmai.us/original/63/68/__rozaliya_olenyeva_honkai_and_1_more_drawn_by_xiang_he_he_qunzi__636845e600d0fb106518d6d55bb4ee64.jpg

the ira assassinated a member of the royal family. the majority of the conflict happened on irish soil unfortunately, and much of it brother to brother instead of direct action against the true persecutors. let me remind you that the monarchy is who controls englands military forces, and it was military forces that stormed ireland. even if it wasnt on their word, they are still guilty of complacency and callus passivity that lead to the death of thousands, the subjugation of millions, and the bleeding of a beautiful culture. https://i.imgur.com/0pUZ6o8.jpg

@momoichi oh yeah in the speed boat. I remember that now. Still, my point stands. I agree the Irish people were culturally genocided but I don't agree with the IRA's terrorist actions. That wasn't solving anything. https://cdn.donmai.us/original/85/dd/__rowlet_and_akari_pokemon_and_2_more_drawn_by_mansu_user_pnmp4287__85dd4fa65076f9562814f045f47250dd.jpg

i disagree with the ira's methods of violence when it came to the innocents that were harmed, and no one will try and claim that too many by standards werent harmed. but the war they were fighting was just, and while it was domestic terrorism by definition, it was against an invading country that claimed their land and people. i agree with the fight against the loyalists as well, and i empathize with the feeling that they needed to use violence to sway their brothers. personally, i dont even see northern ireland as ireland. if they love england so much they can call themselves english. you can thank the ira for reclaiming the land they did. england stole irelands weapons, and it was thanks to shipments of guns and ammo that they fought and won their freedom. if it wasnt for the brainwashed loyalists they would have taken all of her back. i dont even need to defend the ira, though their ideology was correct, because the mutilation of ireland is directly connected to the royal family. i googled it, and yes, it was the king of england at the time that called for the invasion, and the line of royalty after him that perpetuated the violence, so the monarchy does infact have blood directly on their hand, and so does the current crown for not giving northern ireland back to the irish. the english backed out of hong kong, india, and more, they should back out of ireland as well and leave its governing to the irish. the only spark in the bleakness of the troubles (what a condescending name btw) is how beautiful irish folk music is. ever listen to the clancy brothers? god bless england is a hoot. "When we were savage, fierce and wild" "Oh she came as a mother to her child" "She gently raised us from the slime and kept our hands from hellish crime" "And sent us to Heaven in her own good time" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CySri9RAuQ

@momoichi wait are we talking about the IRA (1919-1921)? Or the IRA (1968-1998). I assume it's the later. If it was the Colonial British empire during the Irish famine I could agree with violent tactics but the British government after WWII is far more reasonable. I can't agree in the IRA attacking other Irish just because they didn't agree with them. That's tyranny. The IRA murdered Jean McConville. For what? Beating her up claiming she was giving information when that wasn't true. You don't make a right with two wrongs. The IRA(68-98) were just a big gang. I also find it funny two Americans(one being brown) are discussing this. We are Geeks. XD https://c.tenor.com/OjiFKoDbAU0AAAAC/laszlo-wwdits-crazy-wax-banana-insane-loony-nuts.gif Only Irish music I know is the Cranberries. Zombie is actually about an IRA bombing. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts Linger is their most famous song https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Kspj3OO0s Linger's music video is based on Alphaville(1965) one of my favorite movies
