It would either be Super Metroid or Final Fantasy 6 on the SNES.

@BlackHeart First game was Super Mario Bros 3. I agree with you, Mario 3 and World are probably the best constructed Mario games out there. It might have something to do with having hardware limitations and having to find ways to make your game work with the hardware.
