I'd say both situations could be equally bad, it's all situational. I've never even spoke to my father and that definitely had an impact on me growing up.

both are terrible, yeah, but growing up in a home of fighting is more damaging id say
specially if you know its your fault

I agree.
Growing up my parents also divorced at a very young age for me.
Father was very violent while my mother was quite delusional.
My mother remarried to another jerk which quite honestly did not help a bit growing up.
Step-father made it clear he hated having me around, still don't get along with him to this day.
I would certainly say all of that messed me up pretty bad, but after going through a ton of stuff to fix myself
I can now say I know I would never treat people the way I was treated years ago.
However, it is a shame that some people get so damaged from these experiences that they can't even seek the help needed
because it was so traumatic for them.

Oh definitely I get that.
It is scary to think about what could have been as opposed to what is.
But thankfully we have the lives we live now, after all things can always be worse and it is always
possible to make things better now and for the future. Just have to push to make it happen and if you are able, you can always find a helping hand on the way to the light on the other side of the tunnel.
It's just heartbreaking being unable to help everyone.
