I feel like 1+1= 4. The books should be changed to not be so offensive to people with different beliefs.

what if believing 1+1 = 4 is offensive to my belief in math

warmblood2 and rinse.. are you both flatearthers? COZ YOU SEEM LIKE! 1 + 1 = 2 has a proper theoretical proof, the one that OP posted is too complicated and gibberish.. you can find other in various math subjects. Infact there is a way to prove that using boolean algebra too. But still atleast OP is trying to search the truth. But warmblood and rinse you both are ignorants who are not observing the obvious infront of you! now will you make a 1+1=4 earth society after your successful attempt at the flat earth?

Why didnt i see this thread before 0_0 @tabris, that proof is not at all complicated.. it looks complicated because that proof is a pretty old one from principia mathematica. And back in those days the notation used was quite different from now. If you convert it to present day notation then you would find that this proof is quite similar to most proofs on sets and isnt complicated. I can give u the jest of that proof.. That mathematician prooves that if there are two sets which contains exactly one element then their union can have 2 elements only and only if those two sets are in disjoint. Thus if you take 2 representatives of 1 who are in disjoint then their union will be 2. He provides his proof with very few increments each step which makes it look like each individual statements arent much different from each other.

@tabris The original proof is more than 300 pages long! But that is so not coz it is all about prooving 1+1 =2, but because it starts from nothing and builds the logical operations then prooves 1+1 =2. I find this proof to be more compact, maybe u will like it --> http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/51551.html
