How does your family react to your otaku passion?

My brother was born 1976 so he missed the western indoctrination of eastern pop-culture. As far as he is concerned, it is on par with liking He-Man Masters of the Universe or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. We've watched a show or two, but it doesn't hold the same interest as with me. For the best presumably for my interest in video games spawned from him loaning me his original PlayStation with a copy of Tekken 3 when I was a child of around 7. After that I received a copy of Final Fantasy 8 and became heavily engrossed in Asian entertainment. The thirst grew not before long! Hours, days, weeks, and months would pass playing Jrpgs as well as action titles. Eventually I got a PS2 as another gift from my brother along with a copy of Devil May Cry that he found at the bottom of a discount bin at Walmart. Compound that with Toonami airing shows such as Dragon Ball, Gundam, Yu Yu Hakusho, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain and FLCL for what would forever cement my descent into Otaku culture. My mother and father would occasionally watch an episode of DBZ with me, but they couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculous hair styles or constant yelling for no reason. Still they let me watch it regardless. Plenty of my friends at school were also fans of shows like Yu-Gi-Oh! along with Pokemon and Bleach. Plus I had a number of neighbors that loved anime too. I was never the odd duck out in my neck of the woods to be sure. Surprising the mash up of cultures one finds in pokets of the U.S. We were all country hicks rocking Naruto headbands and jamming to R&B rap back in my day! What a time to be alive that was, haha!

I show them anime and get it to like it so far I completely converted my brothers into weebs, my sister likes saiki I and naruto, when my mom was a kid she used to watch dragon ball and pokemon and recently I showed her your name and a silent voice, my stepdad loves AoT and has even watched half of the promised neverland and the bunny girl senpai movie I got my step mom into kakegurui, and I even got my friends to watch anime therefore no one can judge me if I convert them all

"uncaring" and "confused" is the way my parents look at my hobbies, from what I can tell. My sibling(s) love anime and games too.

My parents don't care because my older brother, few cousins and I grew up with watching anime and cartoons from the 70s, 80s and 90s. My brother was into gaming, martial arts (Taekwondo, Judo, Kendo, Kung fu and freestyle fighting), some anime and manga. He loves to play games with his friends and his kids. When my mom and dad saw me putting anime posters up, watching anime and reading manga. They thought something was wrong with me but then I started to cosplaying, they finally asked me why I was playing dress up and I told them there was a con in town I wanna go. Now my room is full with anime posters, plushes, figures, dolls, funkos, cosplay props, and etc.

My mom has no idea what it is and simply doesnt ask but my dad was always super cool, took me to my first convention when I was 12 and pushed me to cosplay or do something in the industry.

Still remember when my mom and I were going through my old stuff when I was moving out and she said "you dont need these cartoon books anymore right?" and proceeded to throw away all my doujins rip

They think it's childish and constantly tell me to grow up, they think it's just a phase I will grow out of( little do they know )

+My folks don't care. They made me an anime cake for my 14th birthday and gave me money for my first convention which was anime weekend awa-con. But I can't find that convention on this site though. AWA-con was my first and my friend's parents were supportive and so was mine. They didn't care cause they grew up on cartoons and my dad watch family guy and American dad sometimes. He also seen some anime shows I watch. Like elfin lied and realize the cartoons I was watching was for adult or what he calls it adult animation like what he watches. He doesn't care anymore but was more concern which it being too much adult for me when I was younger parental control pretty much. But they always took me to Barnes & noble for manga and my sister picked me up random manga and they drove me to the library as well for manga.
