A friend I had in high school self published a story of his own making. Last month he got featured in Spain's version of America's got talent. Getting yourself out there is definitely possible

Idk if you guys know the site wattpad.com I think it's similar with kindle. People write their stories there whether fiction or other genre. Eventually when it got a lot of reads like a million or so, a certain publishing company messages you and offers to publish your story and sell it in the market.
