Do you believe that it's a good idea for the economy or is it a bad one?

I believe there was a thread that mentioned this awhile back but either way its good to see it brought back up.
As far as universal income goes to me its like having a newtons cradle that has one ball in the center having more density than the rest.

To be honest I think a basic income is becoming an essential requirement, and it's not because there are lazy good for nothings who don't want to work, it's simply that the amount of jobs is going down (and in some places the amount of people is going up).
With the amount of AI in development it's only a matter of time before the next wave of jobs disappear because machines are much cheaper to run, and need maybe a handful of engineers to maintain. As technology continues to develop human labour will become obsolete (not over night, but likely within the next two or three hundred years) so if there's no basic income what are all these humans with no jobs supposed to live on? That's my view.

"Hence why capitalist politicians support the idea too, right."
No, that's the complete opposite of capitalism.
There may come a time when automation is at a point where there's literally no jobs left or almost no jobs left, and at that time capitalism will likely die. We are however not at that point, and will not likely come to that point any time soon. It isn't that capitalism will adapt, it's that capitalists will stop being capitalists.
It's probably going to happen whether we like it or not, unless we come up to some technical limit in robotics that we just can't get past. At that time, the dollar will probably die, and everyone will have a certain amount of spending power in order to survive and enjoy themselves. Life is either gonna get ultra boring or hella fun.

Capitalism certainly has may flaws, but after the crises of WW1 and WW2 it is the only system that has proven to prevail and develop the overall global economy.
It is unfortunate that it is at the expense of others, but Utilitarian principles like a global base income suffer from the dilemma of free-riding.
The problem is not everyone may contribute enough to be given such an income, on the other hand those working way harder and who deserve more won't be given enough. And where would the money be coming from, tax dollars?
I believe that there should be a base line that at least allows people to survive, no one should be under paid.
And more countries should adopt the European style of a set amount of hrs of work per week. In America people work insane hrs, thats not right. People deserve to spend time with their families, they weren't brought into this world to just work for the rest of their lives.
The problem isn't Capitalism per say, its Consumerism and the Profit Motive.
People pumping out products for the sake of consumerism, shit that people don't need but buy anyway, and then cost of living and inflation increasing.

Good for the bottom, but very bad for the whole

Ehh, I don't see UBI as necessary nor helpful. All a government funded UBI would cause is faster inflation; when everyone has more money, no one has more money. Businesses will adjust prices afterwards to compensate for everyone's increased income.
However there are ways you can get a pseudo-UBI going for yourself. I'd suggest looking into cryptocurrency and ASIC miners. A couple well managed ones can provide a steady stream of income.
