Equality

Definition : the quality or state of being equal : the quality or state of having the same rights, social status, etc. Equality is something many people discuss all with varying ideas what it is to them. With that said I have a few questions. How do you define equality? With that definition stated what are some "ancedotal" and "empirical" observations you have made about your definition? What benefits does your view on equality give to others?

A Myth that everyone is taught to expect. People cannot and should not be equal because people do not aspire to do the same things as other people. I am not capable of doing certain jobs nor is everyone capable of doing my job. Should a person doing unskilled work be paid the same amount as a person who had to go through years of training to do something? I think not. People shouldn't even think about equality, they should think about doing the best they can.

I agree with the definition you stated. We are different but how is that connected to not being equal? Humans should all be equal in front of the law and the society. Sadly that often isn't the case and the way you are treated is defined by your gender, race, age, level of attractiveness etc. But at least in front of the law.. we HAVE to be equal. As that's something we can control.

@Xynomi I wouldn't necessarily agree with that. A Judge shouldn't be treated the same way as a Beggar at least from a Society standpoint. On the Legal note your right, we should all start equally. @Vanessa I am not saying that we are all Equal, I am saying we shouldn't expect it or desire it. If I work my ass off my kids should start off in a better position then someone who lives off of subsidized income there entire life. Do you think its wrong that I work hard to better my family and expect that they have some advantages because of it? No, that would be silly. As far as Potential goes, people live there entire lives without realizing that Potential and there is nothing anyone but they can do about that. I wanted to be better off then I started So I started work at 16, Worked Constantly till 22 at 22 I pursued a Job working at the Bottom of a Manufacturing Company and proved myself Intelligent, Hard Working, and Reliable. I went up to my manager and told them I was interested in a Position in the CNC department and they said they would consider it. After a Month I asked again and got Promoted to a Operator. From there I pursued classes to help me improve my skills at the Job and in another 6 Months became the Overnight Shop Manager as well as CNC Department head. My point is that Hard work and the pursuit of knowledge has always been the driving force of what we can make of our lives. We should never even consider being Equal to our Peers, We should Consider being better then our Peers.

I am not looking to bully you but, anyone has the potential to work on bettering there lives, you can always work hard and do more. You really are foolish enough to think that you cannot unlock your own Potential and you need to rely on others to do it? I literally worked 90 hours a week to get where I am today for 2 years straight at Minimum wage. I worked Minimum Wage Jobs for 6 Years before I got to the point where I can get a actual Career started. The Gap should be infinite, for the potential of people is also infinite. Should you be able to live? Of Course, but not nearly as comfortable as someone who has put in every effort to work my entire life. You know as well as I do you could get a Minimum wage job in a second if you didn't care what you were doing.

Ah, so by default, the one who has a better paying job is also a better person? Equality will never be as far as jobs or place in life, but equality in treatment of your fellow human should always be a thing, regardless of social or economic class.
