Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, The Wind Rises <---Those alone justify him being a legend. Spirited Away is the only anime to ever be nominated for an Academy Award. John Lasseter, the creator of Toy Story, admitted that when he was with Pixar that they'd go into the screening room and watch one of Miyazaki's films to get "inspiration" when they were working on their own films. Not liking his films is one thing... we all have different tastes... but to say he's the most overrated ever? Ehhhhhh....

Just some points of a man with only "a few hits" that only makes "mostly average things" 1. Career spans 5 decades 2. Founder of Ghibli Studio, one of the most respected animation studios in the world 3. Directed and wrote what's considered the best Lupin film, Castle of Cagliostro 4. Princess Mononoke was the highest grossing Japanese film all time (eclipsed by Titanic) 5. Princess Mononoke was the first animated film to win the Japanese Picture of the Year 6. Spirited Away won the Japanese Picture of the year, and was first anime to win an American Academy Award 7. Howl's Moving Castle and The Wind Rises were the 2nd and 3rd anime to be nominated for an American Academy Award 8. 2014 Academy Award for impact on animated cinema 9. Roger Ebert, one of America's most respected film critics, said Miyazaki may be best animated filmmaker in history 10. Spanning From Castle of Cagliostro to The Wind Rises, Miyazaki was the director/writer of 12 films, which WON a total 94 awards, and were nominated for 54 more, totaling 148. 10a. I'll say it again... 12 films as the director/writer TOTALING 148 awards and nominations. 11. The executive chief of Pixar Studio and creator of Toy Story admits Miyazaki is his greatest influence Oh, and as an added bonus, he also wrote the scripts for Whisper of the Heart, Secret World of Arrietty, and From Up On Poppy Hill... and created the concept for The Cat Returns. All of these films are either award winning or highly acclaimed. But he's... overrated? There's a difference between something legitimately being overrated, and just simply not being a fan of it on a personal level. There's certainly nothing wrong with not being a fan of Miyazaki. I mean, there's plenty of people that don't like Spielberg's films. There's people that think the Final Fantasy series sucks. There are people that think the Zelda series is overrated. There are a LOT of people that think anime as a medium is trash. And with all that, there's one thing for sure... there's a lot of opinions out there. http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/945/132/895.jpg

You can also point out the fact he is very opinionated with a hatred for American's and Anime Fans. Trying to just fuel more controversial opinions not going to say anything more atm.
