To be Accepted? Or Understood?

To be accepted by others? Or to be understood by others? All too often, I hear these two desires used interchangeably, when in fact, they really aren't inherently the same thing.
To be accepted is to have those around you forgive or at least tolerate your quirks, and welcome you into their fold.
And to be understood is to have people relate to you, and comprehend your feelings and actions.
So, if you could hypothetically only choose one, which do you think you internally place more importance on? Being accepted? Or being understood?
(Edit: Oops, meant to post this one in the Serious Talk section. Oh well.)

Understood. I can be a derpy guy makin viral videos to get upvotes on utubes and stuff and "accepted" as the funny video guy. Or i can be someone who makes funny videos that people can relate to and still get 1million views.
In a smaller scale scenario: If im accepted into a gamer group for instance because I have a minimum skill requirement rather than them knowing why I want to pursue this team and how i got into gaming can be quite different.
Acceptance is more prone to making other things fake in a relationship. I guess I value being understood and having no mix-ups or confusion more.
