Kind of random but..

I survived stepping on a nail once. Also I fell out of the top bunk of a bunk bed, luckily it was on the wall side which slowed my decent.

I survived being homeless in Portland for ten months.

That's more hardcore than me. I was homeless a couple years on and off in Bloomington, IN. But it was real easy there. Back then you could still nap in the library and watch free movies in av rooms, get free meals in the church basement downtown a couple times a day and shower there and play on the computers in the university computer labs all night, get free clothes from the donations behind Salvation Army.

A nail! Ouch that would hurt pretty bad, I just picture Home Alone.

I was 12 and running through the yard barefoot, no idea where the nail came from.

I went with friends to Chicago and tried living on the streets there for a few days. It's no fun in the big city, maybe if you know your way around real well. The free meals were tiny and horrible.

Yeah my father, and I were living together at the time, and he wasn't in a very good state. We lived in an apartment together for a year, and he left the apartment a total of two times, while we lived there. He refused to work, and started selling his possessions to pay rent. The very last month which was august, he said that he couldn't pay rent, and was going to leave to Portland with nothing, but a backpack on his back. So I went with him to make sure he would be okay, and now he is doing much better, has a job, and everything. Overall I am glad I had that experience, because it opened my eyes.

Honestly we were lucky the city we went to was Portland, I feel like they have a lot better programs than most cities. In particular The Blanchet House. Luckily they serve three meals a day six days a week to the homeless. They also have a housing program, where you work to make food for the homeless, in trade for room, and board. I just wish these type of programs were non-religious.

I noticed from my home town that, unfortunately, as the homeless population has increased in the last 10yrs, they are less and less welcome and new rules and laws are enforced to make their lives more difficult. Security now walks around constantly to be certain nobody falls asleep for even a minute at the library. They got rid of the stone ledge so you can't "loiter" around the outside of the library or sleep there either. The food kitchen for the homeless has been moved a few miles south to the outskirts of town. The police harass you if you try to sleep in any of the downtown parks because they are "closed". Same with the university campus. I had to either climb up on small rooftops at night or wait till daytime to sleep in parks the last time I was homeless there a short time.
