Altruism

What are your thoughts on altruism? Do you think it's necessary outside of our biology? Do you think it's something you are prone to doing moreso than not? Can you really be Selfless if so provide me reasons. Thanks for any thoughts.

I actually hold altruism quite highly, as a trait which shows an all too ignored "Better" part of the human character. Too many people bitch and moan about how horrible the world is, yet fail to recognize that they aren't really helping or contributing to a more positive world. Its as if they believe that the world will automatically fix itself if assholes didn't exist. Don't get me wrong, that would be wonderful in itself, but when was the last time anyone talked about human kindness? I have a feeling if we started talking about it more, we'd be noticing it more, and the world will seem much brighter in contrast. Yes, I do believe altruism is necessary outside of biology. I'm glad we evolved a sense of altruism in order to take care of our children and all. Now if I'm not mistaken, couldn't the ecosystem, our political system, and our general world view use some human altruism right about now? Greed hasn't been getting us anywhere. I don't think I'm altruistic. I know I am. When someone drops something, I'm down on my knees, helping them clean before I even register it in my head. XD I actually don't believe its possible to be 100% selfless. Actually, while we're on that topic, I don't believe that this is a world where perfection can exist (Outside of Harmony that is.) That said, trying is still a noble goal, and sometimes just 33% is good enough. Your welcome. Bit tired, so I was able to make this post less ramblely than usual. Anyways, off to bed now. I hope I didn't just come off as a macro repeat spewing out a moral code that I'd been programmed to reinforce. Trust me when I say, I've done a lot of thinking on subjects like morality. XD
