Daoko (ft. Teddyloid) series

What do you all think of the music video series Daoko made? Me!Me!Me! and Girl Personally I think the two fit but I don't entirely understand the story or even how they relate to each other. Just if you want to understand or you remember by character appearances. The idol character for Me!Me!Me! and the main character of Girl are below. http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/869/593/aa3.jpg http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/thumbnails/crop600x315/cms/news/91775/daoko.jpg

Oh man, I am obsessed with Me! Me! Me! The music and art are freaking AMAZING, but also the entire story hit close to home. Although there are several different interpretations of the story and its meaning, from what I gather, it could be summarized as this: Protagonist is obviously an otaku, was involved with a girl (Hana, I think was her name), but somehow lost this relationship. A lot of people, including myself, think that it was lost due to his extreme obsession with anime and otaku culture. He idealized this blue-haired girl, at first it was her mere cutesy behavior and whatnot. Charming, innocent stuff, right? But then he began to sexualize her, idealizing her body and whatnot. This led to a rift in the relationship, eventually leading to him walking away from it. Predictably, the protagonist regrets this decision and tries to win his paramour back, by trying to break his obsession with anime and otaku culture. But of course, things are never that easy, so its a huge struggle as symbolized by the battle scenes. Ultimately, I think the story concludes on a down note: the protagonist never gets Hana back, and he is still stuck with an unhealthy obsession with anime. On top of it all, he is also haunted by the memory of his relationship. This is symbolic of the entire video being on a loop and a kind of "dream sequence" style story device. Of course, there are more intricate, complex theories and interpretations of the imagery and story, but I merely outlined the gist of it. I want to hear everyone else's take on it! Also, what were your favorite sequences of the video? As far as "Girl" goes, I'm not as keen on that short. It was still rather good, but it did not leave a huge impression on me as deep as Me! Me! Me! did.

@.nyquist My favorite sequences were when the actual video started showing the Memes (not internet memes, Memes were the names of the blue haired girls). It started off giving the best feelings of how Otaku minds like ours work. Or at the very least, the NEETs *ahem* overly creative minds. Also, I liked the acid trip scenes. You know, the ones after Evil Hana regurgitated in the main character's mouth. Then the good scenes started with him shooting down his bad thoughts with a gun from Neon Genesis. And the Sound Sphere was amazing. That was interesting but jeez this AMV is in my top 10. GIRL was an interesting AMV as well. An apparent part 2 to the series from what I've read. Same singer, same artists (animations and Daoko), and same story kinda. It's really worth looking into. @Strife425 You must be talking about the Nihon Animator Mihonichi movie. Yeah, I can't wait for that. :D

Haha, so essentially the entire thing? Can't really blame you, as I loved it all as well! Though, if I was really pressed to choose, I'd have to go with the beginning two sequences. Why? Just because the color palette and style matched SO GODDAMN WELL with the music! Especially the 2nd part, when things got all naughty~ That filthy electro house fit PERFECTLY with the neon highlights, and red/black hues. I love it when artists fully render out the visual and auditory aesthetic of their work, making them complimentary. Very rarely do they match up exactly. And there's a third?!

Yeah, kinda the entire thing. And would you consider Me!Me!Me! Chronic the third? It seems amazing. I think in the Nihon Animator Mihonichi movie they finish off the story

Chronic was okay. The visuals were nice, but reused. The music was still pretty good, but I like the originals better. Really liked that Teddyloid remixed the songs to fit the trap and big room styles though. That was really cool! So when is this movie gonna come out?

ME!ME!ME! was an animation that I have learned to idolize since it's release. It hit far too close to home for me. Including an exact loss of mine due to my own otaku obsessions. I'm not proud to say I understand how the protagonist truly felt though his trials, but we all learn from the mistakes we make. Teddyloid has been a great inspiration to me in the past. Since my VOCALOID fanaticism started and I discovered Teddyloid he always moved me with all of his projects.

I am a big fan of Daoko as well and I interpreted girl as a woman who is constantly seeking her prince but keeps being tied down to the same old melancholy world full of addictions, and bandwagoning. As for me!me!me!, I agree that it is definitely an otaku who has lost some of the most precious things in his life due to his addiction to the otaku lifestyle. In some of Daoko's other videos she actually carries around a bunny plushie that is shown in the animated shorts.
