I got some colored pencils and I've been trying them out. Trying to get my shading to be better. Would be glad if I got any suggestions and tips. http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f23/Darkarmyn/14495475_10155240333820830_1518315707009746104_n_zpsq47yno6x.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f23/Darkarmyn/14563589_10155240333380830_5253175506074681285_n_zpslk9tihko.jpg

@Fatalis: You definitely want to draw smaller. Colored pencils can't smudge/spread like regular pencils or charcoal, so it's difficult to cover such a large area. I think you're working with an 8x11 inch paper?... THAT'S A LOT OF SPACE!!! Try half of that and draw an apple or orange. Just to test things out! Another tip is variance. Your technique of partially spaced lines is good, but you also need darker, more compact ones. Clip Studio Paint (an art software I use) has a colored pencil tool so I'll try to demonstrate: https://i.imgur.com/iy29FNU.png #1 is what you have right now, but you need #2 and #3! Basically you go over the same spot until it's a solid color. Like the page becomes shinny or something (just try not to rip it...). I used a marker tool for her hair since it was taking too long with colored pencils (#WOMP) but the same holds true: multiple strokes will yield a darker tone. ALSO you want uncolored spots too! Try not to color highlight areas because you can't erase colored pencils (not as easily as regular pencil, at least...) I hope this makes sense!

An Ink-tiddly-wink from the "INKTOBER" thread. Inktober 05 - "Sad" https://i.imgur.com/NtTMMev.jpg (wish paper had an undo button... maybe that's why she's sad!)

Its funny you say draw smaller because I usually draw smaller. These are just 5 minute doodles I've done and I wanted to draw drawing large to just try out a few styles I've seen to maybe get a bit better. I usually use a regular pencil to sketch everything out first and then go over that with the colored ones. I have a drawing tablet that I might try to use soon and see how I like that. Thanks for the advice!
