You know what grinds my gears(VG Edition)

You know what grinds my gears... terrible video game mechanics. Ever play a game then you notice some game element that make you say wth? I give quite a few examples... Call of mother fucking duty: I was playing on veteran and this bot shot me through 3 walls. You might think that's normal but 1. Bullets without fmj can't even go through some boxes. For it to go through 3 walls is ridiculous in COD game mechanics 2. They had no uav or black bird. There is no way that a real person would have know I was there. 3. On the kill cam I watch him snap to that position. Side note for FPS games: People take half a clip of hitting rounds and don't die. You take 1 bullet your pinky toe and die. RTS games: There's two things that I noticed as common trends in this genre. The two examples I'm going to be talking about is Blizzard's warcraft/starcraft and Stronghold 2. Warcraft: Ever noticed how you put all ai on free for all but they all come and attack you at the same time? I have and it's terrible. Stronghold 2: No matter what the handicap is on the enemy always start with an advantage TBS games: My goodness... Ok so the two examples I'm going to give is civilization series and Heroes might & Magic 5 Civilization series: I don't know how this is possible but when a spearman destroys your tank. There have been some theories about how this work. One theory is that they are "modern spearman". Equipped with grenade tipped spear or something. This was a problem like it was in civilization 3 and before. This problem isn't as common in Civilization 5. Heroes Might and Magic 5: Insta find and know. Just like it sounds the ai know the who, what, when, where, why, and how all the time. Please share what grinds your gears as far as game mechanics:)

(does it have to be just videogame mechanics?) You know what really grinds my gears... The approach Activision is taking with Modern Warfare Remastered Say what you want about the Call of Duty Franchise, I used to find it quite enjoyable during the Modern Warfare era. I played alot with my friends and had good times. The series has been S*** for me after MW2. I was excited to hear MW was getting remastered. But then I saw that you had to purchase the new Infinite Warfare in order to get Modern Warfare Remastered. So I have to pay $80 for the Legacy Bundle that includes MW remastered (which only has 10 maps out of 16), which is such a dick move on Activision. Though I'm not sure if this part is true, but I heard you still need the data/disk from Infinite Warfare in order to play MW Remastered. That really grinds my gears

what grinds my gears is call of duty games. a shotgun cant kill a guy up close and its a one shot one kill when faced by a guy with a machine gun who kills me in the blink of an eye. how can i start a gun fight with someone like legit in advanced warfare there is a single fire shot gun called the bulldog and if you have a fast trigger finger it can shoot like a regular gun. damage all the way. i can fire first and still lose the fight. in what world is it possible that a shot gun loses to a machine gun? in an up close fire fight and you shot first?

@Wert: I can totally sympathize with Veteran AI being bullshit in the COD games. My favorite (ie most hated) experiences relate to World at War on Veteran where the Nazis continuously rain grenades onto your exact position, sometimes to the point where you'll have to deal with 5-6 grenade indicators at the same time. Even worse is the ridiculous accuracy and reaction speeds the AI has throughout most of the game series. I mean, when you're practically miles away and the enemies are scoring hits on you every time you poke your head up from cover, that's just insane. Assault rifles generally aren't even made to be that accurate, let alone SMGs and Shotguns. panda-kun: Lag in multiplayer games is shit too, but what can you do. I don't know how many times I used to get complaints from other players (ie angry profanity-laced messages) about Commando knifing in MW2. They would tell me I lunged at them through their shotgun blasts, but I never saw it because my game was ahead of theirs. I don't know how you fix that problem. What grinds my gears the most in videogames? Disjointed hitboxes in fighting games or action games (when it's against you). By this I mean when the hit box for you or their weapon extends beyond the borders of where the graphics show they actually are; basically they should be hitting air, but you end up taking damage. Nothing pushes my buttons faster than getting hit when I feel like I shouldn't be, and watching what should be an enemy whiff turn into a long inescapable combo is just absolutely maddening. A lot of my favorite games have them. I love the Dark Souls series, but they love making it vague where the enemies' attacks start and stop. In Bloodborne, the Bloodletting Beast can jump up in the air and flatten you, even if their body doesn't actually connect with your character. You take massive damage, you character is put in an extremely vulnerable position, but the boss never actually hit you.

@blood omg i cant tell you how many times i have been hit with smough's hammer through a pillar in ds1 like what the hell? how does his hammer hit me from the other side of the pillar? or like when mobs knock you down and attack during the animation where you get up and its not like you can stop the animation so you get hit anyway because they hit the second your no longer immune but its still to early to react

@Maria: I put way too much thought into this kind of bullshit lol @panda: lol, yeah, Dark Souls is so bad about that kind of stuff. It corners you and sometimes doesn't give you a chance to fight back. What grinds my gears? When somebody says a game is hard but fair. I've never, ever played a game that didn't have some form of bullshit in it, especially really hard games. Sometimes, you're just going to lose because of the programming, and not because you didn't deserve to win. I'd prefer games be difficult, but there's always a point where these games beat you without giving you much of a chance.

You know what grinds my gears? People who try to claim they pvp in Dark Souls for the challenge. But sully use the abilities to make you and your equipment entirely invisible. Like, ganging people isn't a challenge. It doesn't test your skill. If you want challenge face the other person in the open. Don't use estus. Try not using a weapon. Don't lie about your intentions. If youre making yourself invisible for every invasion, you're a douche. Not looking for a challenge. *exhales deeply*

@serenesalvation dark souls pvp is as real as it gets my friend. if your not good at pvp nothing you can do really. just play offline mode so they dont invade you. since ds1 i have seen ganking everywhere it sucks cause how can you fight 3 guys at once if you hit one the others attack and he backs off to heal. at that point its just kill the host and get it over with. fight clubs however are fair no estus, no ganking, just one on one fighting winner keeps fighting
serenesalvation
Fight clubs are great fun. And I have few qualms about the pvp in most cases. It's supposed to be hard. I just dislike cowards claiming it's "for the challenge" when it's not.
